A 6-foot-2, 195-pound native of Plantation, Florida, he was a highly regarded recruit out of American Heritage High School, continuing a family legacy as his father, Selwyn Brown, won a national championship with the Hurricanes in 1987. After a foot injury sidelined him for almost the entirety of his sophomore year, Brown bounced back with a highly productive redshirt sophomore season, recording 24 tackles and earning a strong 79.4 pass-coverage grade from Pro Football Focus (PFF).
