5 Breakout Fantasy RBs in 2015

CJ Anderson, Denver Broncos

After Montee Ball and Rommie Hillman saw plenty of hype before the 2014 season, CJ Anderson ended up being the Broncos RB to emerge by year’s end as an absolute stud. Anderson had two 3 touchdown games over the last four weeks of the NFL season and is poised to be the top runner for run guru Gary Kubiak this season. People seem to be catching on to CJ Anderson as he is now being selected in the 2^nd-3^rd round of fantasy drafts. As a head coach, Gary Kubiak always leaned on the run game with Arian Foster and last season with Justin Forsett in Baltimore. Anderson could end up as a top 5 fantasy RB and maybe even contend with being the top scorer.

CJ Spiller, New Orleans Saints

The Saints have plenty of fantasy potential and the addition of CJ Spiller could add a new element they have missed since Darren Sproles left. Spiller has always been dynamic but was really underutilized in Buffalo. Though Mark Ingram is still the starter, Spiller should see plenty of catches to be viable in PPR leagues. He has a home run threat that could produce some big games (as well as some quiet ones unfortunately). With Kenny Stills and Jimmy Graham moving on, there will be passes to go around and Spiller could be a big beneficiary. If he falls too far in your drafts, scoop him up.

Frank Gore, Indianapolis Colts

Trent Richardson’s ineptitude has really painted a negative picture of the Colts run game but a veteran like Frank Gore should excel. Like most RBs with top QBs, teams will be planning to defend Andrew Luck and that may create bigger holes for the run game. Though Gore is 32 years old, he has been consistent as ever and leaves what could have become a bad situation in San Francisco to a good one for the Colts. He has more talent than past Colts successes like Ahmad Bradshaw and Boom Herron and should get plenty of goal line looks for touchdowns (plus some catches). Gore is going a tad too low and would be a great RB2 for your fantasy team.

Doug Martin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Doug Martin had an explosive rookie season with a few huge games and then has suffered multiple injuries and appears to be battling with Charles Sims to be the man this season for the Buccaneers. New offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter is all about explosion and scoring which should benefit Martin. As a whole, Tampa Bay’s offense is underrated and could score plenty to keep up in games. This is also a contract season for Martin who should be auditioning to become a starter somewhere else next season. Martin is going pretty late for a starting RB and could be a bench or flex player that emerges to put up some big points.

Bishop Sankey, Tennessee Titans

Bishop Sankey’s rookie season was a disaster. With so many rookie WRs having big seasons, Sankey seemed left behind as a high fantasy pick who busted. The consensus seems to be he is just bad and he is being passed by in fantasy drafts. Ultimately, it might have just been the Titans who were bad and the addition of Marcus Mariota and more time for the offensive line could really help Sankey. Profootballfocus rated Sankey’s reason pretty solidly and he actually broke more tackles than many elite RBs in the NFL. The holes were just few and far between for Sankey so if that changes, he could hit his potential. The Titans have released Shonn Greene and rookie David Cobb shouldn’t take the 3 down work away from Sankey. He is a bargain for a starting RB at the moment.
