Fanspeak Fantasy Football: Waiver Wire Pick Ups Week 6

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

By Staff Writer Ryan Gerrity @RyanGerrity:

After week 5 of the NFL season there seemed to be a lot of “fish out in the sea” value wise on the waiver wire.  This week it seemed to be heavy on the wide receivers because they really stood out this week.  Do not wait around for a player to have a “break out” game if he has struggled, hit the waiver wire and this is where you find out who to pick up!

1.      Reuben Randle, WR, New York Giants

Randle of the New York Giants had a breakout game in the last game of the regular season last year with two touchdowns.  It only took him until week 5 to have that break out game this year.  Randle was all over the field, and was targeted 13 times.  Targets should rise while the defenses are preventing the big plays downfield from Cruz and Nicks.

2.      Zac Stacy, RB, St. Louis Rams

I know the Rams played the Jaguars this week, which means the statistics, may be inflated.  I did not look at the overall statistics, I look at the yards per carry.  Stacy had a average of 5.6 yards per carry, while Daryl Richardson only had 3.7.  Richardson is not separating himself as the consistent starter and Stacy should see more carries this week.

3.      Robert Woods, WR, Buffalo Bills

This is the third time that Woods is on my Waiver Wire pick up list!  Still no one seems to think he is going to continue this success because he is only owned in about 17% of fantasy leagues on ESPN.  Woods has been targeted 37 times over the past 4 games which is a huge number compared to other receivers in the league.  It does hurt Woods that his quarterback EJ Manuel will be out a couple of weeks, but Woods should be a consistent target for any Bills quarterback.

4.      Terrence Williams, WR, Dallas Cowboys

Williams caught 4 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns against the Broncos this past week.  Dez Bryant and Jason Witten are going to get a lot of attention, and Miles Austin always seems to be banged up, so who is the deep threat?  It could be Williams and it seemed like that way this week.  If he proves he can run consistent routes and catch the ball the targets will continue to come.

5.      Pierre Thomas, RB, New Orleans Saints

Thomas has not been the running back fantasy wise that most people have hoped for.  He is not a standard league running back, however if you are in a PPR league you need to pick up Pierre Thomas.  He caught 9 passes for 55 yards and two touchdowns in week 5.  With Sean Payton and Drew Brees together, they put everyone in a position to succeed.

6.      Nick Foles, QB, Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are going to be without Michael Vick this week against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but Nick Foles will make the start.  Foles came in relief for Vick during the second quarter against the Giants in week 5 and played a great game.  The game against the Buccaneers should be interesting, but if you have a quarterback on a bye like Ryan Tannehill or Matt Ryan, Foles is a definite pick up and start.
