Draft order based on Las Vegas Super Bowl odds
If the Browns are selecting first overall, then their signing of Robert Griffin III didn’t work out. Cody Kessler was a third round pick in the 2016 draft, but I don’t see him as the long-term solution.
Jurrell Casey is one of the best 3-4 defensive ends in football, but the Titans could upgrade their other defensive end position. Allen wasn’t a full-time player last year, but still had 12 sacks and 14.5 tackles for a loss.
Quarterback is the position that is talked about the most with San Francisco, but the pass rush needs improvement as well. Aaron Lynch is talented, but another edge rusher is needed. Garrett has abused SEC offensive tackles for over 20 sacks in his first two years in College Station.
After much speculation that the Chargers would draft Laremy Tunsil or Ronnie Stanley at No. 3 overall last year, the team failed to draft an offensive tackle. Robinson is clearly the best OT this year, but comes with potential off-the-field issues. However, the charges have been dropped from his offseason arrest.
Drafting Tabor would mean two straight Florida cornerbacks for the Buccaneers in the first round. It would be worth it though, as Tabor could be even better than Vernon Hargreaves III.
Lawson considered entering the 2016 draft, but eventually decided against it. If he can put together a full season with no injuries, he’ll likely be a top pick. The Lions could use another defensive end opposite Ezekiel Ansah.
With the way the Browns’ roster looks right now, they should be in the business of selecting the best player available regardless of position. In this case, it is Fournette, even if he plays a position that has become devalued.
Drew Brees is expected to sign a contract extension sometime in the future, as his deal expires at the end of the season. However, the Saints should start planning for the future, as Brees won’t be around forever. In this situation, Kaaya’s value is too much to pass up.
The Falcons continue to rebuild their defense. Harris is a talented pass rusher and would give the team a great, young combination at the position with Vic Beasley.
The Dolphins acquired Kiko Alonso in a trade, but their linebacker unit still needs help right now. Making matters worse are that two starters, Alonso and Jelani Jenkins, will be free agents after the season. McMillan is the top LB right now in the 2017 class.
LeSean McCoy is still under contract for a while, but he is approaching the age where running backs start to decline. Cook has the potential to be an elite running back.
Tennessee’s cornerback group doesn’t look to good right now and their best cornerback, Jason McCourty, will be a potential cut candidate when the season is over.
The Jets are loaded at wide receiver right now with Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, but Marshall will be 33-years old when the 2017 NFL Draft occurs. Plus, the Jets will want to surround Christian Hackenberg, the quarterback of the future, with as many weapons as possible.
Free safety is set with the signing of Tashaun Gipson, but strong safety isn’t decided yet in Jacksonville. It is expected to be Jonhathan Cyprien, but he hasn’t impressed in his first three seasons. Adams would be a huge upgrade.
After not drafting a left tackle, the Bears will start Charles Leno Jr. at the position in 2016. He might play well, but he also might not. Johnson has started since his freshman year.
McDowell enters the 2017 draft cycle as the top defensive tackle and Washington needs some help on the defensive line.
The Texans have never properly replaced Owen Daniels since he was released. Howard put up great numbers in the National Championship Game, showcasing his great talent.
The Giants have shown a strict aversion to the linebacker position in the draft recently, but their defense needs a playmaker behind their strong defensive line.
The wide receiver position in Baltimore has a lot of question marks for the future. Smith-Schuster is in a battle with Williams for the top wide receiver spot right now, so this is good value late in the teens.
Starting running back Latavius Murray is set to become a free agent and McCaffrey would be an upgrade. Not only would he stay in the Bay Area, but he’d also join an offense with rising stars Derek Carr and Amari Cooper.
Williams played very limited snaps for the Crimson Tide last year, but he was extremely effective as a situational pass rusher. He fits best in a 3-4 defense, which is what the Colts run.
Eric Berry will play the 2016 season on the franchise tag after the two sides made no real progress on a new contract. This means that he could leave in free agency, creating a massive void in secondary.
Left tackle Matt Kalil is entering the final year of his contract and hasn’t come close to matching his performance as a rookie. He very well could depart in free agency.
This year has the makings of a deep edge rusher class and Smoot is another talented rusher who probably isn’t getting enough credit right now. Dallas needs a talent infusion on defense.
A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd are already on the roster, but the Bengals could use another target. Boyd is expected to play mostly in the slot, leaving a spot open on the outside. Cincinnati has shown they value adding weapons on offense.
While Denver’s defense is already great, they are going to need another defensive lineman when the 2016 season is over, as two key contributors will be free agents.
Kelvin Beachum left via free agency this offseason and the Steelers never really replaced him.
Ryan Kelly, the only center to go in the first round last year, was commonly linked to the Cardinals. They ended up drafting Evan Boehm in the fourth round after Kelly went to Indianapolis, but he may not be the answer.
Maybe 2017 is the draft where the Panthers find Cam Newton a playmaking wide receiver to go with Kelvin Benjamin.
The Legion of Boom’s play has dropped slightly as they attempt to find a new No. 2 cornerback. Humphrey would instantly solve this problem.
Green Bay has five offensive linemen hitting free agency next year, including three starters, two of which are guards. Jason Spriggs was drafted in the second round last year to help, but another lineman will be needed.
Jackson is an elite athlete, but he is still putting it together at cornerback. If he does, he has the potential to be great.
