2017 All Senior Bowl Practice Team:

QB: Nate Peterman , Runner-up: Josh Dobbs

-Overall this wasn’t that close of a race for the top QB. Peterman looked to be the most well-rounded and NFL ready QB on either squad. Josh Dobbs made a solid case for himself and Davis Webb was close to the runner-up spot, but neither played at the level Peterman did over the course of the three practices.

RB: Kareem Hunt, Runner-up: Jamaal Williams

-This really was a coin-flip for me as I really enjoyed watching both runners throughout the week. I gave Hunt the edge because I feel like he’s a more well rounded back, but from a pure rushing standpoint Williams would have the edge. So a lot of this depends on what you are looking for.

TE/FB (2): O.J. Howard, Evan Engram, Runner-up: Michael Roberts, Gerald Everett

-This was honestly the deepest position group as all 6 tight ends are at least solid prospects and both FBs played well throughout the week. Despite the depth, it wasn’t hard picking the top two options at this group as Howard put on a clinic all week and cemented a likely top 20 selection. While Howard was the clear cut, number one TE Engram had to fend off some quality options for the number two spot. I thought Engram had a really nice week though and while he’s not the blocker Howard is, he showed nice effort there and proved to be an extremely dangerous pass catcher.

WR (3): Taywan Taylor, Ryan Switzer, Zay Jones , Runner-up: Cooper Kupp, Josh Reynolds, Amara Darboh

-The wide receiver position was one of the toughest to whittle down to a top three. Taylor, Switzer, Jones, Kupp and Reynolds all made a case for the first group. In the end I went with Taylor as he was the best all-around receiver, Switzer for being the best route-runner and the best at creating separation, while Jones I thought was the best pure pass catcher while also looking good in other areas. This isn’t an elite group and I would be surprised if any are taken in the first 2 rounds, but there is nice depth among these receivers.

OT (2): Taylor Moton, Antonio Garcia, Runner-up: Julien Davenport, Adam Bisnowaty

-Moton (who also played a lot of guard), was the best player on either team to line-up at tackle. Now he did a lot better at RT vs LT, but he was still the most successful OT prospect throughout the week. Garica is technically sound and he’s got a lot of potential, but his play was up and down. The upside is there though and if he develops you could have a good long term LT. Davenport was a small school guy who held his own this week. Bisnowaty didn’t have a strong week overall, particularly at tackle, but he still ranks as my fourth best OT and his versatility is an asset.

OG (2): Dan Feeney, Dion Dawkins, Runner-up: Danny Isidora, Jordan Morgan

-Feeney was my top offensive lineman of the week at any position. I thought he showed really well each day and in every format. He’s very technically sound, and uses his hands really well, while playing with a good base. Dawkins was a bit up and down for me, but he had some nice moments and I liked how he showed versatility as well moving to tackle at times. I wasn’t overly impressed with Isidora or Morgan, but I consider them both to have some decent upside.

C: Ethan Pocic, Runner-up: Tyler Orlosky

-Pocic didn’t have the greatest first day, but I thought he rebounded day 2 and 3 to end up with a really strong week overall. He was the top center here for me by a decent margin and he should go in the top 75 picks. Orlosky I thought played well, but he didn’t wow me. He has some starting potential but will probably take a couple of years to develop.

EDGE (3): Derek Rivers, Daeshon Hall, Tarell Basham, Runner-up: Dawuane Smoot, Vince Biegel, Jordan Willis

-Rivers and Hall for me were the top two edges throughout the week. Rivers is so natural rushing the passer and while his size will likely push some 4-3 teams off of him he can flat out get after the QB. Hall showed well also as he terrorized OTs on the first day of practice. He has a good burst and the power to win inside, but he needs to develop more nuance to his game. Basham was a guy who flashed some to me, and I see some decent EDGE ability there as well. Outside of that there were some solid performances namely from Smoot, Biegel and Willis. All had their moments, but none truly dominated.

DL (3): Chris Wormley, Tanzel Smart, Eddie Vanderdoes, Runner-up: Montravious Adams, Jaleel Johnson, Dalvin Tomlinson

-This was one of the most talented groups and it was tough to come up with just a top 6 (much less just a top 3). For me Wormley showed the best through every day at practice. I like how he was the toughest battle for Dan Feeney and his game translated in full team work as well where he made some nice plays. Wormley also impressed given some of praise he received during position drills. Smart has a really nice burst and plays with good leverage he definitely can be a disruptive player at the next level. I also thought it was a really strong week for Vanderoes who not only showed he’s healthy, but that he still has the power and quickness that tantalized scouts early in his career. Any of the runner up options deserve serious consideration as well, as they all helped themselves this week.

LB (2): Haason Reddick, Alex Anzalone, Runner-up: Duke Riley, Ben Boulware

-This might be the position group that helped themselves the most when it comes to the two starters. Reddick showed that he can play in any style of defense and excelled as a pass rusher, in coverage and run support. He probably had the best all-around week of practice and has legitimate first round consideration. Anzalone might not have Reddick’s upside, but he had a fantastic week of practice as well. He looked excellent in coverage against some quality TEs and backs, while also playing the run really well. While they weren’t that close to consideration for the top spots I liked what I saw all week from Riley and Boulware as well.

CB (3): Rasul Douglas, Tre’Davious White, Jourdan Lewis, Runner-up: Desmond King, Cameron Sutton, Damontae Kazee

-White probably would have had the top spot if he didn’t miss the 3rd practice as he looked like the best corner for the first two days. Douglas though had a really good week throughout and had maybe his best practice day 3, showing excellent coverage ability. Lewis is another guy i liked, I think he might be more of a slot guy overall, but he competed throughout the week. Desmond King will get some knocks, but he still looked good throughout much of practice. The problem was when he lost it was bad and people took notice. Overall I think he may fare better as a safety at the next level. Sutton was able to get some work at safety and I thought he showed some nice potential there.

S (2): Obi Melifonwu, John Johnson, Runner-up: Justin Evans, Nate Gerry

-One of the biggest stars of the week just so happens to be the biggest defensive back in Obi Melifonwu, the 6’4″ safety who is incredibly athletic. He was excellent in coverage drills throughout the week and showed really good reaction and pursuit angles in team drills. John Johnson I thought also looked good as a cover safety with range, he just got overshadowed by Melifonwu. Evans was really good the first two days of the South team practice, but he missed day 3. Gerry was consistently solid throughout every practice.
