Daily Discussion: Redskins Future With RGIII

January 8, 2013 in NFL

Now the when Griffin gets back on the field will be based on what procedures his knee has to undergo, but the how and what he comes back as the Redskins can influence. Do they change their playing style to protect him more? Do they need to invest more into the offensive line to protect him? Do they encourage Griffin to not scramble and instead throw the ball away? What are your thoughts, how should the Redskins handle Griffin when he comes back?

I do think move #1 is a right tackle and it seems like there are all kinds of good tackles out there this off season. So hopefully it is an easy one. And I do think they will adjust their offense slightly to help protect him better

Agreed…they need to invest in RT this offseason and sure up that line. I'm a little nervous about the future of guard too and hope Lerebus and Gettis can make positive impact if needed.
I think he's always going to give that threat to scramble, even if he comes back with big knee brace. But I think there is going to have to be a good percent less of designed runs.

I agree with you he is a scrambler but they need to try and limit the number of times he gets hit or else he isn't going to last long in this league. They need to invest in his O Line to protect him so he doesn't have to take off and run right away.

I definitely think they need to upgrade their offensive line to help protect him, but that's not how he was injured. I think the RGIII that we saw this year is no longer. As Megan said there needs to be less designed runs. He will always have to scramble, but he needs to be smarter about either getting down sooner, or throwing the ball out of bounds to avoid the sack. He took a number of hits this year because he was slow to get down. He's got a great arm and can read defenses well, and I see him enhancing those skills during his rehab.
