2013 NFL Draft Grades: Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Tampa Buccaneers Draft Grade:

Round 2, #43 – CB Johnthan Banks, Miss St – Grade: A

-This is a great value pick for the Buccaneers as they land Banks who had a borderline first round grade here in the 2nd. Yes they had bigger needs, but pairing him with Revis, really strengthens this team.

Round 3, #73 – QB Mike Glennon, NC State – Grade: B+

– The Buccaneers passed on need here, but they got some nice value. Glennon easily could have gone early in the 2nd round. Josh Freeman has been solid, but has yet to show the consistency needed out of him. Glennon gives Tampa a replacement going forward if Freeman doesn’t take his game to the next level.

Round 4, #100 = DT Akeem Spence, Illinois – Grade: B+

-Gerald McCoy is one of the better young defensive tackles in the league, but Tampa really lacked a complement to him. Spence gives them that and is a nice value pick here as well.

Round 4, #126 – DE William Gholston, Michigan St. – Grade: B-

-Tampa could have used more of a pure pass rusher, but Gholston should help improve their defensive end rotation next year. He’s a slight reach here though, which knocks the pick a little bit.

Round 5, #147 – DE Steven Means, Buffalo – Grade: C

-Adds depth to their pass rush, but there were more talented players still left on the board.

Round 6, #189 – RB MIke James, Miami – Grade: C+

-Good value pick here for the Bucs. They needed some depth behind Doug Martin, and James is a tough runner who could fit in well with them.

Overall: B+

-With the added value of Revis this is a pretty strong draft. Tampa did ignore many of their bigger needs, but they got really nice value with their top two picks. Banks especially was a pick that I really liked. Between him, Revis and their safeties, Tampa now has one of the strongest secondaries in the league, just a year removed from having one of the worst. Spence is another good pick who should help out the team early and improve the defensive production. My biggest issue with this draft is the lack of a true pass rusher or pass catching tight end. Both of those are big needs and will be tough to find in free agency.
