Redskins Weekly – Rams Recap & Thursday Night Preview
1 – I have to say that the week two win against the Rams was a shock to me. I don’t even want to look back at what I had for a prediction.
Once again the Redskins came out strong in the first half but unlike when the Dolphins stormed back this week Washington was able to answer the Rams on both sides of the ball. Cousins did what he had to do to win Sunday as he was an accuracy machine.
Would we all like to see big plays downfield? Yes but if they continue to run the ball down teams throats and the eventual return of Desean Jackson I fell it will come. Let’s be patient like 2012 when the run opened up big plays downfield all season.
2- After two weeks we have to say so far so good on a couple off season additions.
First of all we must be very happy with the two huge coaching hirings so far in Joe Barry and Bill Callahan. The defense has been strong so far and we have seen very few big plays so far given up. No one wanted Barry here and he now must be getting more and more of us on his side. It is only two games but so far it has been far different than the Haslett years.
As for Callahan he may get a Nick Saban statue at Redskins Park pretty soon if he can continue to grow this offensive line. The running attack speaks for itself as both Morris and Jones have had big games. And the offensive line has done a solid job in pass blocking against two top defensive fronts in the league. Now they get a weaker Giants front and must continue to keep Cousins up and the two big boys rolling.
Scot McCloughan was brought here to improve this roster and everyone knows his past at a successful drafter. How has it gone so far? I would have to say as good as you could hope. I know that the hope was that Scherff would play tackle but who cares because he has been very solid at guard next to Morgan Moses. I like what I see in Preston Smith so far and I didn’t expect him to contribute this much so quickly. I don’t have to discuss Matt Jones because the Sunday highlights are all you need to see. Now if the special teams can give a little room for Jamison Crowder so we can see what he can do.
3- I was so wrong last week and am thinking for the sake of the Redskins pick the Giants on Thursday night.
Beckham Jr. destroyed us last year but we have Chris Culliver back and that should help keep him working our secondary with ease. The Giants are desperate after two losses they should have won. But I think we can move the ball and once again control the clock. And the Giants are horrible against the pass and are now without Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie Thursday. The past says the 0-2 Giants will step up and save their season because that is what Manning and Coughlin do. But this Giants team does not have the talent of those teams.
So I think the Redskins can go to New York and win 24-14.
