Thoughts on the Redskins Inactive Players for Week 2

The Redskins announced their inactive players for their 4:05 game against the St. Louis Rams.
No. 8 QB Rex Grossman
– No. 31 S Brandon Meriweather
– No. 32 S Jordan Pugh
– No. 67 G Josh LeRibeus
– No. 73 G Adam Gettis
– No. 88 WR Pierre Garçon
– No. 92 DT Chris Baker

-Still a bit surprised that Grossman is inactive. Not that you want to think that Robert Griffin III will get injured, but if he does (even for a series) I’d rather see a veteran in their week 2 on the road.

-No surprise that Meriweather is on the inactive list again, but it can be a notable absence, particularly in helping in run support.

-Speaking of run support, Chris Baker being inactive isn’t what the Skins want to see. The Rams are going to try to run the ball quite a bit up the middle, and with Baker out it forces Barry Cofield to play a lot of snaps. In a close game that could wear down Cofield and open up running lanes for Steven Jackson.

-Given that he wasn’t practicing this week it’s not surprising that Pierre Garcon is inactive, but it does hurt. Throughout preseason and in week one, it was pretty obvious that Garcon is Robert Griffin’s number 1 target. Given the better corners of the Rams you hate to be without your best receiver. On the plus side it will be interesting to see how Dezmon Briscoe is used today since he’s active.

-Again the Redskins sit both of their rookie offensive linemen, which I still consider to be a bit of a risky move. Having just two active back-up offensive linemen is always a bit risky, especially when Kory Lichtesteiger is coming off a serious injury. It might be minor, but offensive linemen are one of the most injured positions in the NFL, which could quickly force the Skins in a bad situaion.
