Rise of Liverpool under the Command of Jurgen Klopp

Soccer Steve O Speak

The story of Jurgen Klopp transforming Liverpool into the giants of football is no less than a fairy tale. When Klopp came on board, Liverpool was in a really bad shape as they suffered defeat after defeat and finished at 8th position in the Premier League season 2015-16. It was Klopp’s first year in with the team and the times were such that the fans were celebrating a draw against a West Brom, and it was nothing short of embarrassing for some of them. But that also was the turning point for the team. After that draw, Klopp led the team too 4th position in season 2016-17, 4th again in 2017-18, and 2nd in 2019. If you have not been keeping up with the action, you can follow Liverpool football scores on xscores.com. You can also get live scores for other sports matches as well on this website. The current season of the premier league is underway and Liverpool is not only standing right on top but is inches away from winning the season. The journey for the club has really been a dramatic one, but how did Klopp take them there? Let’s have a look at a few prominent actions he took that change the team’s fate:

He Reestablished Liverpool’s Dominance in Anfield

When Klopp arrived at Liverpool, the team was doing so terrible at Anfield that any team that faced Liverpool there had a good chance of getting away with at least one point. It had become a fallen fort for Liverpool, and Klopp knew that they needed to take it back if they were to make any further progress. Even though the fans were there to support and the atmosphere was terrific in the stadium, players did not feel up to the mark. When Klopp took over, they have a win percentage of a mere 50% in the past 12 months. And they started the next season (2015-16) in a similar fashion where they won only two out of their first five home games. But then Klopp changed things around and since those defeats, Liverpool is unbeaten at Anfield and has won more than 40 games there. The fans could not have asked for a better sports result.

He Made Quite A Few Valuable Signing

One of the things that Klopp did best was bringing the talent to the team. And there can be no better example of that than the “Egyptian King” Mohammad Salah. He has been the main attacking guy for Klopp and has scored tons of goals. Salah finished top on the list of leading goal scorer in the Premier League in the season 2018-19. Another great signing who shared the golden boot with Salah was Sadio Mane of Liverpool. Apart from these two, the notable signings included Virgil Van Dijk, Alisson, Andy Robertson, Georginio Wijnaldum, Joel Matip, and Fabinho. Signing these players was quite expensive, and that’s why Klopp sold Philippe Coutinho (the £100m player of the club). Klopp said, “The best thing is if you have a player worth £100 million, you can sell him for £100m”. He always looked for the player that fitted his team instead of just going for the big names.

He is a People’s Man

Klopp brought the best out of all his players. He was a people’s man, and he knew that the team was not enjoying themselves. Of course, when they started winning things got better, but Klopp also made sure that players adjusted to his style and relaxed. All the signings he made were not just based on talents. He also saw what a player will bring to the team and how he will respond to his unique management style. He also did not carry on with Nabel Fakir for the same reason as he thought Fakir did not bring much to the environment and was also demanding more money.

The Attacking Approach

Klopp always went with the pressing game, and that is the reason why Salah and Mane were so successful. Even though he was criticized for pushing players too much, he still carried on with the approach and did not just win games, but also made clear to the opposition that they were here to win the trophy. He mentioned that the press was always targeted and he did not push players more than there physical ability.
