Jordan Love Agrees Massive Four-Year Green Bay Packers Contract Extension
How things have changed for Jordan Love. He had previously been fighting Aaron Rodgers for game time at the Green Bay Packers, struggling to make headway, and now, after a great second half of the season campaign last time around, the 25-year-old quarterback has been handed a new deal that makes him the best-paid player in the history of the NFL.
Love and the Packers have inked a deal that is worth a stunning $220 million over four years, $55 million a year, $155 guaranteed, as well as a $75 million signing bonus, not bad for a player with just one full season of action behind him.
In the 2020 season, Love didn’t get a look in at Lambeau Field; in 2021 and 2022, he managed a combined total of 10 games, of which, just one was a start. However, with Rodgers having left for the New York Jets, he made a real impact last time around, aiding his side’s turnaround, with the Packers winning six of their final eight regular-season games and then beating the Dallas Cowboys in an on the road wild-card playoff, before bowing out to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional game.

On that run of great form last season, general manager Brian Gutekunst was full of praise, stating,
“To go through the tough stretch in October and to see him so steady through all that and just really lead our team to get better week in and week out, and to see the rewards at the end of the season, I was very excited for him and our football team,”
“For as good as he played, there’s so much more in front of him and just excited for him and where he’s going.” Gutekunst added.
Head coach Matt LaFleur was similarly effusive at the end of the campaign,
“He had a hell of a year,”
“Let’s not look past that. He really did. Just to see the growth … obviously the results speak for themselves, but the growth of him as just the commander out there, he’s an extension of us, and I thought the ownership that he showed, the leadership that he showed, was a great sign for us.” LaFleur commented.
The former rival for his starting position at Green Bay, Rodgers, also made a point of celebrating the deal handed to his former number two.
“I want to give a shoutout to Jordan Love becoming the highest-paid player in the NFL. J-Love, don’t spend it all in one place. But if you do, I still have a house in Green Bay up for sale,”
The future certainly does look bright for Love, and you could make the argument that bringing in the player helped to get the most out of Aaron Rodgers in his final seasons at Green Bay, where he would go on to win back-to-back NFL MVP awards in 2020 and 2021, to go with the two he had won previously.
