Top three pound for pound Boxers

Steve O Speak boxing

Boxing appears to have returned and is being pushed by the success of the heavyweight division, as we near the unification bout between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. This is one of the biggest fights in history and is set to result in record breaking numbers, with the fight expected to take place in 2021. It had been planned that we may see this in the latter stages of 2020, but we continue to see the struggles of Covid, and this fight will need to take place with spectators in attendance, due to the size of the event it will be. This is all part of the entertainment business, which continues to innovate in order to deal with the complications around this virus.

This has all led to new talk of the leading pound for pound fights and who makes the select list from the boxing world. So here we cover three of the leading pound for pound boxers, who must make the select list.

  • Canelo Alvarez

Included in virtually all pound for pound lists and most people’s idea of the number one is Mexican boxer, Canelo Alvarez. The 30-year-old turned professional at just 15 years of age, following a Junior National victory. He has since proven this to be a great move and has also continued to remain very active. Canelo now has a record of 53 wins, two draws and just one loss from his 56-fight career, with 36 wins coming via knockout. That is a remarkable record and why he must enter any conversation, when it comes to pound for pound best boxers. His only professional defeat to date came against former pound for pound king, Floyd Mayweather Jr. That proved to be a record-breaking event in Vegas, with fans flocking in their numbers and not only hitting the casino tables but across the city. Many used the best online poker sites in advance, in order to further enhance their experience, as they looked to win big on the tables and on the fight itself. This record further shows how impressive Canelo has been and it will be interesting when we see him next, with December being put down as a potential date.

  • Terence Crawford

Another fighter that makes most lists is 33-year-old American, Terence Crawford. He has a professional record of 37 wins without loss, with 28 of these coming via knockout. Crawford has now moved up to welterweight, following a short reign as the undisputed light welterweight champion and it will now be fascinating to see how he performs against the leading fighters at this weight class. Crawford has long been known for his hand speed and defensive skills and is another true boxer, so must make this select list. Crawford recently picked up an impressive win over former champion Kell Brook and it will be fascinating to see who his next opponent is.

  • Errol Spence Jr

The final fighter to make the list and one who we may see take on the former mentioned in what is one of the most anticipated fights to be made at the weight class and in the sport in general. Errol Spence Jr is coming off the back of a car crash and has yet to return to the ring, following this. It will be interesting to see the impact of this, once he returns to the ring. The 30-year-old holds a professional record of 26 wins without loss, with 21 of these coming via knockout. He has long been held in the highest regard by other fighters and also long been avoided. Next up will see him take on Danny Garcia, as he looks to continue his impressive unbeaten run.
