Incredible Djokovic lands record breaking seventh Australian Open title

Steve O Speak Tennis

The 31 year old headed in to the recent Australian Open as not only the world number one, but a previous six time winner. This meant he was tied with Roger Federer as the winning most player in the history of the competition. However he put in a remarkable tournament culminating in a straight sets victory over Rafael Nadal, meaning he is now the most successful player in the history of the Australian Open. This did not come as a surprise as he had started the tournament as the strong favourite, with many punters supporting him using the latest Resorts online casino bonus code 2019. This also meant the Serbian now heads the charts as the all-time leader in prize money earnings.

Djokovic had declined in recent years as he went through struggles off the court, but has now returned better than ever. Following this recent success he now holds three of the four majors, following victories at Wimbledon and the US Open in 2018. It is just the French Open he is not holding at present as the king of clay, Rafael Nadal, continues to keep a strange hold of that competition.

The Serbian now has 73 career titles to date as he continues to push his legacy as one of the greatest players in the history of the sport. This includes 15 Grand Slam titles, and it would come as a big surprise were he to fail to add several more to this. This now puts him just five behind Roger Federer and two behind Rafael Nadal. Could he yet surpass the pair before the end of his career?

With Nadal dominating the French Open for some time it has meant that Djokovic has only one title victory there in his career, which came back in 2016. The US Open has also been a happy hunting ground for the Serbian with three career victories, coming in 2011, 2015 and most recently 2018. This was another final victory in which he won via straight sets.

Wimbledon is widely regarded as the pinnacle of the sport, and is the most important competition for most players each year. Djokovic is the current campaign following yet another straight sets victory in the final against South African, Kevin Anderson. This was just another example of the incredible form Djokovic has been in for the last few years. This was his fourth Wimbledon success following victories in 2011, 2014, 2015 as well as 2018.

As mentioned previously he is the most successful player in the history of the Australian Open with a remarkable seven titles to date. These coming in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and of course 2019. He is such a fantastic talent and is going to take the world of beating moving forward in any competition he plays.
