7 Thrilling Events to Look Forward to in Austin

Austin was ranked by U.S. News as the best place in the United States to live. Not only is it known as the Live Music Capital of the World, but the area also has historical and community appeal. There is also a thriving tech industry which is promising economically. While Austin has a reputation as a launch point for performers, many of the locals merely love to visit the live music venues to watch. If you need more reasons to visit, here are seven thrilling events in Austin to look forward to annually.  

 

1. Formula 1 United States Grand Prix (October)

Want to catch a race of international proportions? That is no problem in Austin with the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix race held in October at the Circuit of the Americas track in nearby Elroy. You can camp out and attend live music events that feature notable headliners like Justin Timberlake.

Austin offers live music every day and has events like these at least once a month. There are also tickets available for local sports, theatre, and concerts that have something for everyone.

2. Austin Oyster Festival (February)

The Austin Oyster Festival is hosted at the Seaholm Lawn by Jeri’s Seafood and Hope Farmers Market to benefit the Central Texas Food Bank. Besides giving back to the community, participants get to sample fresh oysters, drinks and Cajun music.

3. Austin Marathon (February)

For the healthy at heart, there are lots of sporting events like the Austin Marathon to get your pulse racing. This event attracts more than twenty thousand participants annually. There will be a famous music icon serenading beginners and a full festival at the end. The course is also certified by the USA Track & Field as well a Boston Marathon qualifier.

4. South by Southwest (March)

The South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference & Festivals is an internationally acclaimed event held at the Austin Convention Center beginning in March. It is considered the largest festival of the year, which is why Austin attracts the best in music, film, food and technology. In attendance will be diverse genre musicians, actors, filmmakers, and multimedia artists.

5. Rodeo Austin (March)

The Travis County Exposition Center is home to a Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rodeo competition held in March. The two-week event is a big deal as it is also a fair, stock show and live music event. There will be more than 100 performances in 2019 like Josh Turner, Ludacris, Duelo, Tracy Lawrence, Gladys Knight and Dwight Yoakam. There is also an after-hours honky tonk, so the festival promises night after night of fun and excitement.

6. Levitation Music and Arts Festival (April)

Held yearly at the Carson Creek Ranch in Austin, this week-long Levitation Music and Arts Festival has grown an international fan base quickly because of the popularity of psychedelic, rock, heavy metal and techno sounds.

7. Austin City Limits Festival (October)

More than 70,000 people turn out for this two-weekend festival held at the Zilker Park for the Austin City Limits Festival. As more than 100 world-renowned acts perform on eight stages, it promises attendees a festival no one wants to miss.
