1. What was the best move or biggest surprise of the NHL Trade Deadline?
That it was kind of quiet on Monday. Nash stayed put. A lot of teams figuring to make deals didn’t like the Caps. I think the Rangers were smart to be quiet and stay the course, they got a good thing going this season. Trading essential parts for Nash could have been a major mistake. Now if they lose a lot of 2-1 type games in the playoffs, they can explore it again after the season.
The L.A. Kings getting Jeff Carter… Yes, they gave up Jack Johnson to the Columbus Blue Jackets, but if Rick Nash is traded this summer, then CBJ won’t be going anywhere soon.
I like all the moves the Nashville Predators made. Should help them in the playoffs.
I was surprised the Caps didn’t make a move. Either a short term solution to help a playoff run. Or trading away some of their veteran skaters and Semin to get some draft picks and minor leaguers to help in the future. Doing nothing doesn’t make much sense since even if they make the playoffs, I don’t think they can really challenge for much of anything.
2. Who’s more likely to get dealt…Pau Gasol or Dwight Howard? Or will it be for each other?
I think neither now. Orlando still feels they can keep Howard I think. Why does he want to go to NJ anyway? It seems like Deron Williams doesn’t want to be there after this season. As for Gasol, I think after Kobe’s whining he will stay.
Howard — Gasol is on a team with real championship aspirations and might be able to work things out. Howard can’t say the same. Case closed.
Dwight Howard because the Magic need to at least get something in return for him. Only way I can see Pasol and Howard being traded for each other is if there is a 3rd team involved. Lakers don’t have many pieces besides Bynum and Kobe.
I think both get moved, but it won’t be for each other. Gasol and the Lakers might be untenable and Howard I think will land somewhere other than LA.
3. Now that the NFL Combine is over, which one player do you want your team to draft no matter what?
Robert Griffin III to the Skins. I hate the past of giving up draft picks but those trades were for Brandon Lloyd, TJ Duckett, moving up to get Rocky McIntosh, etc. This is worth it now. I am convinced he will be a “franchise” type QB for a long time. And if you have that, you can be good for 10 years or so. Plus, we are in great cap situation thanks to Allen and Shanny to add around him right away. Looking at the draft day trades like for Vick and Eli, I don’t think 3 #1’s will be needed. Probably this and nexts #1, plus a 3 and 4 maybe? I like Brian Orakpo a lot but wouldn’t be mad if they involved him in any trade also.
In the case of the Redskins, I’d say a QB… not sure who yet, but if they draft a decent one, they will have actually done something smart.
I would love the Jets to get Courtney Upsaw from Alabama. He would be a monster on our defense. He should be there at 16 but if they need to, I think they should trade up for him.
Safety Harrison Smith- The Redskins need to move on from the Laron Landry era and Smith would be an excellent replacement.
4. Now that Ryan Zimmerman is locked up for the foreseeable future, is that enough of a cornerstone for this team to win a Championship?
Yes. They should be a championship competitive team for the near future. Zimmerman gave them a team friendly deal also. Players have to play to their potential but the Nats have a lot of talent right now. Especially in the rotation and bullpen. Plus, Davey Johnson is a winner. They don’t have any holes to fill other than centerfield it looks like.
The Nats aren’t exactly contenders right now, but they’ve got a great shot at finishing above .500 and contending for a playoff spot.
I like their offense a lot if they can stay healthy. I think their rotation is a year or two away from being one of the top 3 in baseball. I think this season they can make a run at the Wild Card if their team can stay healthy. Maybe they should add a solid bat if Werth doesn’t improve or if Morse falls off.
I think so, I still wish they signed Fielder, but Zimmerman plus all the young guys is a pretty impressive team. I really think that they will develop into a perennial playoff team.
5. The Colts are expected to take Andrew Luck, will they in 2012 have more, less of the same number of wins that Cam Newton‘s Panthers had in 2011?
My call is the same. I think Luck will be good right away like Cam but I don’t think the rest of his team will be good like last season. We will have a better feel once free agency is over. Who knows? Maybe Peyton, Wayne and Mathis all end up back?
Less. Luck might not even start this season, since Peyton Manning‘s situation is still uncertain. Newton was the guaranteed starter in Carolina and had a great rookie season. Luck will have a good career, but it’ll take him a couple years to get moving.
I think the Colts can win 6 or 7 games which would put them right at where the Panthers were last year with 6. However, the Panthers could have easily won 9 games if it wasn’t for their kicker blowing games and their defense blowing 4th quarter leads.
I’ll say more, I think they can go 7-9. Yes they are completely rebuilding, but they are also in a weak division with teams like the Jags and Titans that they could sweep.
