Weekly Blogger Debate: Answer Top Sports Questions

Steve O Speak

Thanks to Rob and Nolan for joining Steve in the Weekly Blogger Debate!  Now give your answers below…

1.  Which teams win the AFC & NFC Championship games Sunday and move onto the Super Bowl?

Can Alex Smith lead his team to the Super Bowl?

ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:

Patriots and 49ers…. This is New England’s year!!!

NOLAN MUCCIARONE:

The 49ers and Ravens. Why you ask? Because I can’t stand the Pats or the Giants so it must be so.

STEVEOSPEAK:

I think its going to be a 49ers vs. Patriots Super Bowl.

2.  Which NFL coaching vacancy left open is the most desirable in your opinion?

ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:

Indianapolis… yes, they’re rebuilding, but it’s a great place to play and they’ve got the top pick! Luck Be a Lady for them! (That’s a “Guys and Dolls” reference for those non-Broadway folks out there.)

NOLAN MUCCIARONE:

Miami. Even though I have an extreme distaste for all things Miami (even as a city) it is still in Florida, it isn’t California, is in the Eastern Time Zone… and so on.

STEVEOSPEAK:

Raiders…because the AFC West is very winnable.

3.  With football winding down, what is THE sport to focus on…College Basketball, NBA, NHL, MLB (when it starts), NFL Offseason, or other?

Are you looking most forward to baseball season now that football is almost over?

ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:

Tie between college basketball and the NHL… the good news is that the postseason of those two sports are perfectly timed and don’t overlap. So I’m going gung-ho on college hoops while paying attention to the NHL and then it’s time for the hockey postseason, the best one of all the professional sports.

NOLAN MUCCIARONE:

MLB. Because college basketball doesn’t matter until March, the NHL is never on TV, the NBA is nothing but a boring traveling spectacle of no fundamentals and lousy teamwork, and the NFL off-season is as overrated as Jessica Alba. Especially because the ‘Skins don’t dominate the off-season as much.

STEVEOSPEAK:

For me, NFL Offseason of course, with baseball a close second.

4.  With pitchers & catchers set to report in a couple of weeks, which team is the most feared pitching staff in baseball this year?

ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:

The Phillies have their great rotation back, but the Red Sox have a solid staff too.

NOLAN MUCCIARONE:

I know a lot of people are going to say the Angles, Phillies or Rangers. But they’re wrong. The pitching staff to beat is the Detroit Tigers. Think about it: Justin Verlander and Doug Fister at the top can beat any other top 2 easily, Max Scherzer and Rick Porcello take a backseat to nobody’s No. 3 or No. 4 and Jacob Turner who is in-line for the No. 5 spot, is the best pitching prospect in baseball.

STEVEOSPEAK:

I think the Angels with the addition of CJ Wilson, adding to Weaver & company, will put them over the top.

5.  Which NBA team do YOU think is the most fun to watch (this is not based on record)?

Even with a horrible record, are the Wizards still entertaining to watch?

ROB YUNICH – STORMING THE CREASE:

Gotta go with the hometown Wizards…two words: train wreck!

NOLAN MUCCIARONE:

Aside from the Celtics (who are the only team I watch regularly), I find myself watching the Oklahoma City Thunder. Maybe that is because of Kendrick Perkins and I’m just getting bored with the “characters” of the NBA for lack of a better word, but yeah… the Thunder.

STEVEOSPEAK:

Oklahoma City…they are young, driven and Kevin Durant should be considered the best player in the game.
