Daily Discussion: Should The Colts Have Fired Jim Caldwell?

Steve O Speak

The Colts fired Jim Caldwell yesterday, and while it is understandable after a 2-14 record, devil’s advocate would say that this is a coach who had his team in the Super Bowl two years ago. What do you think?

Personally I think he deserved to be fired. I understand that their were other circumstances, but if Bill Polian is going to get the ax, then Caldwell definitely deserved to as well. Caldwell wasn’t a strong enough leader to weather the storm without Manning and I do believe that is ‘on him’. My only issue with this is why did you let him and the team twist in the wind for so long? They fired Polian like two weeks ago, and have left Caldwell in place. Already we’ve seen possibly the biggest coaching name go off the board, and even if the Colts are fine with losing Fisher, they are now behind in interviewing some of the top young coaches out there. Indy should have fired Caldwell two weeks ago and begun the coaching seach in earnest once their new G.M. came on board.
