WEEKLY BLOGGER DEBATE – Top 5 Sports Questions:
Thanks to Parks, Dan and John for joining Steve in our Weekly Blogger Debate! Here are their answers to the Top 5 Sports questions of the week. What are your answers? Join the debate!
1. Who wins this weekend’s NFL Playoff games?
PARKS SMITH:
Ravens and Pats pull it out in the AFC, and in the NFC there will be a pair of upsets as the 49ers and Giants move on.
I like Baltimore by 10-14 at least. Green Bay will shut up the Giants. Not a big believer in the Patriots but I think they handle Tebow and the Broncos pretty easy. Saints/49ers is a tough one to call but thinking the Niners pull it out. I see a frustrating game for New Orleans like the loss to the Rams.
Dan “VANILLA OMZILLA” Omsberg:
New England 31 Denver 27
Baltimore 27 Houston 13
Green Bay 38 New York 35
New Orleans 24 San Francisco 21
Patriots, Ravens, Giants, Saints
2. How much will Ryan Tannehill‘s injury affect his draft stock?
I don’t think it will drop him much, if any. I do think it effects his ability to climb in the draft though. I’d think that Tannehill will still go in the 15-20 range.
Not as much as it would a non-quarterback. If a team believes already he can be a legit starter in the NFL he is going to be drafted in the 1st round somewhere. Especially with last years successes other than Gabbert. I have seen him in the top 10 and I have seen him as a 2nd round prospect also. So it is tough to answer this question where his actual stock is. Obviously if he goes in the 3rd or 4th round, it has been affected. This isn’t a Da’Quan Bowers situation.
Dan “VANILLA OMZILLA” Omsberg:
This really depends on if he is able to go at senior bowl, or participate at the combine.
Alot of people have him in the late first round, and I just dont see it with or without the injury. I think he is a solid second round pick either way. If he is unable to go I could see Tyler Wilson from Arkansas passing him. Tannehill is right now the number 3 quarterback and the furthest I can see him falling is 4. It really all depends on how significant this injury is though.
I think it affects Tannehill’s chances to be a first round pick. He could get passed by one or two quarterbacks in the 2nd round, but should still be off the board in the top 50 picks.
3. Which team is most dangerous in Western Conference of NHL?
Vancouver and San Jose are both on a role lately, but I have to go with the Canucks. They seem like a team on mission right now and their game in Boston showed that they can get chippy.
Vancouver is the best. Great game Saturday winning in Boston. Most dangerous? Going with the LA Kings. Lots of talent and a solid goalie in Quick. Mike Richards will give them leadership in the playoffs also. I wanted to first say Detroit because it seems like they win the Cup every 3-4 years or so.
Dan “VANILLA OMZILLA” Omsberg:
Hockey does interest me, but I am no expert on the sport by any means, with that being said I’m going with the Minnesota Wild… Why? Because its my favorite team!!!
You never want to count out Vancouver, Detroit, Chicago or even San Jose, but for me the team to beat is St. Louis. The Blues are playing great hockey right now and they could win the Western Conference.
4. Were the Raiders right to fire Hue Jackson after the disappointing end to the season?
Yes, it’s a new era for the Raiders with new management. They have every right to bring in their own guy.
Yes. Reggie McKenzie was brought in and he has the right to bring his people in. Holmgren tried with Mangini in Cleveland for a year and didn’t work. I think some people got worried about Hue once he pushed the 2 high picks for Palmer trade. The rest got worried once he called it the greatest trade of all time.
Dan “VANILLA OMZILLA” Omsberg:
Hue Jackson is going to get a job somewhere as a college head coach or an NFL assistant. He really isnt that great of a Head Coach. New GM Reggie McKenzie wants his own guy and there is nothing wrong with that.
Oakland Raider fans will be happy because I think it will be former player Winston Moss.
Honestly I would have given him another chance as injuries to Jason Campbell and Darren McFadden really robbed this team of a playoff birth. Yes I know Jackson was behind the ill faded Palmer trade, but Palmer could still be a part of this team’s future.
5. What are the chances that Syracuse basketball stays undefeated the entire REGULAR season?
ZERO, come on now! It’s the Big East! They do have a favorable schedule, but that February 25 trip to UConn is looming. They also have to go to Rutgers and Piscataway always seems like a town to get trapped in.
Zero chance. One of the Big East’s 2456 teams will knock them off. Figuring they will lose 2-3 games. I am just getting into college bball mode outside of the Terps though. Calling it now. Kentucky wins title. Calipari leaves to coach Wizards. Drafts Kentucky player with #1 pick. Kentucky goes on probabtion. Calipari is lost again in NBA for 2 seasons. Calipari quits. Wall rolls outta town. Wizards still blow 3 years from now.
Dan “VANILLA OMZILLA” Omsberg:
I think there is a chance, but Conference play, ecspecailly the BIG EAST, is tough every single game. Look at these 3 games UCONN, and Georgetown at the Carrier Dome, and UCONN on the Road. Since I dont think great college basketball teams lose at home. With 7 more road games I think they will lose at UCONN, and possibly blow one at Cincy. This Syracuse team is even better than the one that won it with MELO though.”
Normally I’d say ‘zero’ for a Big East team to stay undefeated, but I like the way they are playing now so I’ll say 5%. Now if they get through their 3 game stretch in early Feb. against Georgetown, UConn and at Louisville than I’d raise it to 50%.
