Discussion Question: What Do You Make of the Latest NCAA Violations Involving Miami?

Steve O Speak

Now I’m not saying that the Miami school officials should get a pass for their involvement and they should be punished, but I’m getting a bit sick of the NCAA. Time and again the NCAA takes these ‘holier than thou’ stances after these scandals get revealed, and all they care about is the sanctity of the game.  Please, if that was the case the NCAA would have the same policy for all sports and not ridiculous rules for baseball as opposed to football. If they cared about the game, they wouldn’t have allowed the shame that was the Auburn Tigers this past season, ‘buy’ themselves a National Championship. Where was the NCAA when all of these violations were occurring? Did they really not see that star players at major universities (and some minor ones) were living beyond their means and flaunting it? Why is it they only respond after some newspaper reporter prints a story? And by then it is all too late. At that point the millions are made (for the school and the NCAA), the wins in the books (what does vacating them really do??), and every team that they played was screwed over. If the NCAA wants to get serious, how about trying to prevent these things from occurring in the first place, instead coming in after the fact.

What’s your take?
