Top 10 Free Agents By Position: QB, RB, WR
July 17, 2011
QB:
- Matt Hasselbeck
- Caleb Hanie
- Mark Bulger
- Alex Smith
- Billy Volek
- Bruce Gradkowski
- Matt Moore
- Rex Grossman
- Troy Smith
- Drew Stanton
Analysis:
Not much to see here. If your team still needs a QB the trade market could be the way to go as Carson Palmer, Kevin Kolb, Donovan McNabb and Kyle Orton could all be on the block. I love Caleb Hanie as a great sleeper option here, but beyond that these are backups or stop gaps. I expect Vince Young to be added to this list, but I’d be highly wary about going down that road.
RB:
- DeAngelo Williams
- Ahmad Bradshaw
- Michael Bush
- Darren Sproles
- Joseph Addai
- Cedric Benson
- Ronnie Brown
- Ricky Williams
- Clinton Portis
- Brandon Jackson
Analysis:
After the top 3 guys there isn’t much in the way of every down backs, but you can find a number of good secondary backs for running back by committee approaches. I like the overall veteran depth of this class and that should keep prices low after the first couple of guys. I’d also expect a few other guys to be added to this list once more cuts are made, including potentially Reggie Bush.
WR:
- Santonio Holmes
- Braylon Edwards
- Sidney Rice
- Malcolm Floyd
- Steve Smith (NYG)
- Santana Moss
- Lance Moore
- James Jones
- Mike Sims-Walker
- Jacoby Jones
Analysis:
There is a good bit of talent in this WR class, as even beyond the top 10 there are 2-4 interesting names that should be no worse than a number 3. The list is pretty top heavy of course, but you could find some good values with one of the Jones’s or Sims-Walker. I would expect to see a few more interesting names added to this list, and also you will likely see Steve Smith (Car.) and Chad Johnson get traded this offseason as well.
