Wizards Go Retro

Steve O Speak

Yesterday the Washington Wizards re-branded themselves with a new look uniform, colors and logo. It was a bold change from their current Wizards color scheme that they had been sporting for the last decade and a half.

The new logos are simpler and pay homage to the Washington Bullets uniforms of their past. They return the team back to the red, white, and blue of their past, which is also the color scheme of fellow DC teams the Capitals and the Nationals. The new uniforms have a very retro look that is ‘in’ of late in the NBA. My favorite part of the process is the fact that the Wizards no longer have 16 colors in their uniform pallet, none of which were recognizable outside of blue.

I think the new look is great and exactly what the team needed as they look to continue to rebuild. Last year they undertook a change of ownership, which made this a priority. They had a strong draft and made some smart moves that helped begin their rebuilding process. Now with the new look, they can close part of the chapter of losing and controversy that has plagued this team of late. If their is basketball in 2011-2012, the Wizards will at least look the part, and that is a step in the right direction.
