Thursday’s Morning Links:
Urban Meyer Steps Down As Florida Head Coach: While I’m sad to see Meyer leave the football field, I applaud his decision and hope to see him back on the sidelines in 4-5 years. Meyers is one of the most impressive coaches of this last decade and it would be a shame to see him leave on such a bad note with Florida. I think it is probably for the best right now that Meyer is leaving given his health concerns last year and his desire to be with his family. Meyer doesn’t seem to have his full heart into it, but he is doing right by his family and team. I will say the college football world won’t be the same without him, so I do hope he returns sooner rather than later.
Matt Cassel Has an Emergency Appendectomy: While I’ve been hard on Matt Cassel in the past as an effective quarterback, it is hard to argue what he has done of late for the Kansas City Chiefs. Cassel has developed into a very effcient quarterback, throwing just 4 interceptions this year and has a quarterback rating of 98.4. Now Kansas City could be without their signal caller for a week or two after he underwent surgery. It is unclear how serious a procedure it was, but at the very least Cassel should be out this week against the Chargers. I know it is an important game for Kansas City, but there is no way Cassel is 100 percent and it isn’t worth him getting hurt worse. Even if the Chiefs lose this game they will still be a game ahead in the division and will need to take care of business the rest of the season.
