Chicago Bears Draft Grade:

Round 1, #20 – G Kyle Long, Oregon – Grade: B

-Love the fact that the Bears addressed their offensive line, as their free agent acquisitions weren’t enough to protect Jay Cutler. Long though is a bit of a reach and a raw prospect. He might not be ready to start day one. On the positive side he is very versatile, so if he starts out as a guard to get him on the field quicker, he could increase his value by moving to tackle down the line.

Round 2, #50 – ILB Jon Bostic, Florida – Grade: B

-The Bears did need to address their inside linebacker position, but Bostic is a bit of a reach. With Arthur Brown on the board that is the direction the Bears should have probably gone. Bostic may have some early struggles if forced into the starting role.

Round 4, #117 – OLB Khaseem Greene, Rutgers – Grade: A

-Greene is a tremendous value pick for the Bears and could potentially get a starting job. At the very least he offers tremendous depth for an aging Bears defense.

Round 5, #163 – OT Jordan Mills, Louisiana Tech – Grade: A-

-Another really strong value pick for the Bears, easily could have gone a round earlier. He could be in the mix for a job early in his career and projects to be a good starter. Again this fills a big need for Chicago, and is exactly what they should be doing.

Round 6, #188 – OLB Cornelius Washington, Georgia – Grade: B+

-Washington is a nice value pick here, as he’s has risen up draft boards with a strong Senior Bowl week and Combine. He should play defensive end for the Bears and help improve their pass rush. Only concern is why his production wasn’t greater in college, but this late in the draft it’s not a big issue. 

Round 7, #237 – WR Marquess Wilson, Washington St. – Grade: B-

-Wilson from a talent perspective is a much better receiver, but he quit on his team this year leaving some serious question marks surrounding him. For the Bears though this is a nice value pick since they are pretty well set at the top for receiver.

Overall: A-

-A little credit is added for Brandon Marshall, but the Bears should have perhaps gotten an A- even without him. Yes they didn’t have any real elite, A+, picks, but they also didn’t have any real negatives either. They hit on many of their big needs and got value and upside with their selections. Sure they might have reached a little for Kyle Long and Jon Bostic, but they were big needs and both players have really good future potential, they just might not have a big impact this year. The lack of any real “misses” helps ensure this draft class is one of the better ones in the league.
