Seattle Seahawks Draft Grade:

Round 2, #62 – RB Christine Michael, Texas A&M – Grade: C

-Michael got a fair amount of buzz in the draft community, but he’s got a lot of red flags from an injury and attitude standpoint. He also doesn’t have the best vision when running, which is a key trait in their zone scheme. He definitely has a lot of upside and potential, but could have probably been drafted 2 rounds later.

Round 3, #87 – DT Jordan Hill – Penn State – Grade: B-

-Hill is a pretty solid defensive tackle prospect, and while this is a bit of a reach, he has little downside and fills a big need for the Seahawks. He could quickly earn a spot in their defensive tackle rotation.

Round 4, #123 – WR Chris Harper, Kansas St. – Grade: B-

-Harper is a solid value here and gives the Seahawks a very intriguing developmental receiver. Given that they are pretty set at the top of the depth chart this is a solid pick for them.

Round 5, #137 – DT Jesse Williams, Alabama – Grade: A-

-This is a tremendous value pick for the Seahawks. Williams probably should have been a top 50 pick, but injury concerns pushed him down. Seattle though can be patient with him, and gets tremendous potential here. He also fills a position of need.

Round 5, #138 – CB Tharold Simon, LSU  – Grade: D+

-This was a good value pick, except for the fact that Simon got arrested Thursday night after getting involved in an argument with a police officer. Simon also has a history with some other incidents, so even if this were overblown like Simon suggests there are some serious concerns here. He does fit what Seattle does, but probably could have been had in the 7th round or even as a UDFA.

Round 5, #158 – TE Luke Wilson, Rice – Grade: C-

-Wilson is a complete project TE, who has some potential due to his speed. There were plenty of other quality TE’s (and other players) still on the board.

Round 6, #194 – RB Spencer Ware, LSU – Grade: C

-With one back already picked, RB is a crowded position for the Seahawks and Ware doesn’t really represent a high value.

Round 7, #220 – G Ryan Seymour, Vanderbilt – Grade: C

-Helps fill a need, but really wasn’t considered a draftable player.

Round 7, #231 – DE Ty Powell, Harding – Grade: B-

-One of the more intriguing late round/small school guys out there. He held his own at the Senior Bowl and shows some natural pass rush ability.

 Overall: C+

-The Seahawks had an underwhelming draft, but they get some credit for acquiring Percy Harvin with their first round pick. The Seahawks took a number of risks or guys early then they should have gone. Seattle did hit on some of their needs (which weren’t that many), but given some of their reaches, they should have addressed the offensive line earlier. Though some of these guys have future potential, the Seahawks aren’t likely to get much early value from this class.
