Eddie Lacy Scouting Report

NFL Draft Scouting Reports

Running back Eddie Lacy

Measureables:

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 231

Arm length: 31”

Hand: 9 ½”

40 time: Not available

Pros:

  • Most complete back in the draft and a true feature back
  • Physical strong runner capable of taking on contact and pushing forward
  • Not easily tackled, keeps legs churning.
  • Really good speed for his size, capable of breaking off long runs
  • Good fluid runner, with quick feet who doesn’t really slow down when changing directions
  • Runs low to the ground and doesn’t give defenders much to hit.
  • Good receiver out of the backfield

Cons:

  • Doesn’t have top end speed, won’t be a great home run back
  • May not succeed as much if asked to run outside a lot
  • Not a refined blocker
  • Only one year of starting experience

Overall:

Lacy is the top running back in this draft and could be the only back who gets taken in the first round. At worst he’s an early second round pick and can immediately start at the next level. He can be a workhorse running back and should cure some team’s rushing woes. He’s a back that can take a hit and break a tackle, and should also be an effective weapon out of the backfield. Though his lack of elite speed won’t knock him too much, one concern could be his lack of experience. He has just one year as a primary back, and it was behind the best offensive line in college football.  Will he fare as well when he’s not given as much support will be a question that lingers for some teams.
