Key Terms to Know About

Auction

A draft system in fantasy sports where owners bid to buy players.

Auction draft

Similar to a normal draft but with closed bids. The highest bid secures the player.

Bench players

Players on the team who are not part of the line-up are called bench players. These players do not count towards the total score.

Bust

Whenever a player performs badly compared to the overall statistics.

Breakout

When a player moves from being average to great, it is called a ‘breakout’.

Free-agent

Fantasy players who are not currently on any teams and who have cleared their waivers are called free agents – up for grabs!

Game-time decision

A game-time decision is the time when it is decided if a hurt player can start in a game or not.

Keeper league

Managers are sometimes able to retain a certain amount of players from one season to the next season.

League settings

The league settings state the rules and stat modifiers for the league which set the value of the fantasy points.

Pre-rankings

The current ranking of NFL players before the draft begins.

Private league

A private league is a league where you have to be invited in by the game commissioner to be able to participate.

Public league

A league anyone can sign up for and participate in.

Sleeper

An unknown player who has the potential to make a great impact in the game is called a ‘sleeper’.

Trading deadline

This is the last day where trading is still open in the current season.
