NFL Players to Step it Up
By Guest Writer Sebastian Salazar:
This segment is about which players on each team have to step it up this week for their team to win. Your week 3 players are:
Atlanta Falcons: WR Roddy White
He started the season with an injured ankle and has not been the Roddy White of old. He recently said in his Twitter “As far as Fantasy if I don’t participate than don’t start me is a red flag”. This is not good news especially with the injury sustained by RB Steven Jackson. Visiting the 2-0 Miami Dolphins that have a stifling defense and will double cover WR Julio Jones, he has to win the one on one battles and help QB Matt Ryan and get the pressure off Julio Jones.
Carolina Panthers: QB Cam Newton
Cam has not started the season the way he wanted to, he stated that his team was ready to make the playoffs, doesn’t look like it so far. Even though he has played two tough defenses in the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills, he gets a very weak New York Giants defense that has allowed the most points in the NFL at 38.5. Cam will have the chance to remind people why he is called Superman.
New Orleans Saints: QB Drew Brees
Yes, I said QB Drew Brees. The defense under defensive coordinator Rob Ryan has done an unbelievable job so far surrendering only 15.5 points a game, 6th best in the NFL. The running game has not got going but Drew Brees has looked at best above average, fans are used to him playing at an elite level. The defense is not going to be able to hold for 16 games and their next opponent the Arizona Cardinals can score points. Brees is going to have to play elite to win this game.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: QB Josh Freeman
This is no kept secret; Freeman has struggled the first two games of the season. Completing less than 50 % of this throws, Freeman is not working with his defense that is playing at a phenomenal level leading the league in sacks with 9 and holding off QB Drew Brees to only one touchdown. He is going to have to raise that completion percentage against the New England Patriots, as they will stack the box to stop RB Doug Martin and make Freeman beat them with his arm. If he can get it going early and establish the run, Freeman might finally be able to get out of the funk and get the Bucs their first W.
