Weekly Blogger Debate: Answer Top 5 Sports Questions
Thanks to Parks & Rob for joining Steve in this week’s Blogger Debate! Now give your answers below…
1. Who will win the Stanley Cup and why?
ROB YUNICH:
The Kings! They’re playing the best of any team right now (as evidenced by their 13-2 overall record, including 9-0 on the road) and they were able to continue momentum by winning game one. They’ve arguably got the better offense and clearly have the better defense. That’s a tough combination to overcome and, if the Devils can’t win game two Saturday night at home, their next trip back to New Jersey might be for the start of the off-season.
PARKS SMITH:
Kings. Al Michaels is a season ticket holder and they have too much firepower for the Devils and their ancient goaltender to deal with.
STEVEOSPEAK:
I think the Kings will win it in 6 games, they have too much talent and have been playing too hot right now.
2. Who will meet in the NBA Finals?
ROB YUNICH:
Spurs and Heat. They both won their home games and should have no problem finishing off the Thunder and Celtics, respectively, on the way to battling for the title, which the Spurs will win.
PARKS SMITH:
Spurs vs. Heat, and it looks like it may happen sooner rather than later.
STEVEOSPEAK:
I predict a Spurs vs Heat Finals, San Antonio is just too good right now, that I can’t see the Thunder beat them a four times. As for the other series I think the Heat squeak it out in 7 games. While Boston can definitely win it, I just get a feeling that they will blow a crucial lead late in one game and that will be the difference in the sereies.
3. Will Roy Halladay’s injury on top of the Phillies other injuries force them to become sellers at the trade deadline?
ROB YUNICH:
Quite possibly. It depends what happens between now and August. If they stay in last place, and their deficit grows, then absolutely. But if they can stay the course until everybody gets healthy, they certainly have the talent to turn things around.
PARKS SMITH:
The Phils will still be getting a lot of guys back throughout the season that should keep them in the race. I could see them trading Cole Hamels because of his impending free agency (Magic Johnson will be calling), but beyond Hamels I don’t know how many assets they really have to move.
STEVEOSPEAK:
It probably won’t, but it should. The Phillies have two of the biggest trade chips in Cole Hamels and Shane Victorino, and their farm system has thinned out due to all the trades they have made. Sure Philly could keep both and pray that everything goes right and they grab a playoff spot, but the chances aren’t that great. And if they really want they can re-sign Hamels and Victorino this offseason.
4. NFL Position Debate: Who’s the better WR — Larry Fitgerald or Calvin Johnson? Why?
ROB YUNICH:
I’m going with Johnson for two reasons: one, his stats support his claim as the better WR and two, he’s got the better quarterback throwing to him. The Lions are clearly on their way up and the same can’t be said for the Cardinals.
PARKS SMITH:
Who’s the better WR — Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson? Why? Megatron for sure, just his sheer size alone puts him over the top. I’ve never seen a wide receiver with the skillset that Johnson possesses.
STEVEOSPEAK:
This is really 1A vs 1B, but I’m going to say Fitzgerald over Johnson. Johnson is the better jump ball/red zone receiver, but Fitzgerald is number 2 in that department, and I think he’s slightly more polished overall.
5. Now that its officially summer and baseball season is in full swing, what’s the best ballpark you’ve ever been at to see a game? (Can be current or past)
ROB YUNICH:
This is a tough one. I’m going to have to go with a tie between Oriole Park and Fenway Park. Oriole Park is an amazing place to watch a game and I’m an Orioles fan. But Fenway has all of that history and charm that’s hard not to love.
PARKS SMITH:
I’ve been to Fenway, Wrigley, Pittsburgh, Cincy, DC, Toronto, and Cleveland but Camden Yards is still my favorite. It’s affordable, there are great bars around, and its just a great park in general.
STEVEOSPEAK:
I haven’t been too many ball parks, but my favorite has to be Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Despite being only about 20 years old, the park has a ton of character. In addition it has a nice blend of new age sight line and amenities with an old school baseball feel.
