Scouting Reports: EDGE Myles Garrett
EDGE Myles Garrett, Texas A&M
6’4”, 272 lbs.
Pros:
- Has elite size, speed and athleticism, and can win in a variety of ways.
- Extremely productive 3 year starter with 32.5 sacks and 48.5 tackles for a loss, not to mention a high number of pressures.
- Is so quick off the snap that he wins the edge before the offensive tackle can even get a chance to get outside.
- Has the ability to force the opposing offense to game plan around him.
- Really good run defender, capable of chasing down a back from behind, as well as setting the edge.
- Has shown a wide array of pass rush moves and counter-moves, though he rarely needs them.
- Is scheme diverse capable of playing both in a four man and three man front.
- Is one of the most NFL ready prospects you will ever find.
Cons:
- Has shown a number of pass rush moves, but overall they are pretty unrefined because he typically just wins with raw speed and power.
Overall:
Garrett has the size, athleticism and ability to be an impact EDGE player in the NFL, which next to a quarterback is the most important position on the field. His quickness off the edge allows him to live in opponents backfields and he’s constantly disrupting plays. Players with his skill set tend to be highly successful and major cogs in their defenses, and there is little reason to believe that Garrett won’t follow suit.
While some try to nitpick Garrett, there just aren’t negatives there that should be of any real concern to NFL teams. He is just too dominant of a player and minor concerns about him being slightly better in this area or that, shouldn’t even be blips on the radar. If he stays healthy, there is little reason to believe that Garrett won’t be an elite edge player for a long time.
