Rapid Reaction: Round 2- Picks 33-40

Draft Grades NFL Draft

33. New York Giants (via Tennessee Titans): S Landon Collins

-Giants give up a 4th and 7th to move up a couple spots and get the best box safety in the draft. He’s a guy who easily have gone in the top 20 picks so landing him here is great for the Giants who had a major need in their secondary.

Grade: A+

34. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: OT Donovan Smith

-The Bucs needed offensive line help badly, but this just feels like a reach. Smith is a big guy with some nice power, but it doesn’t really always show up on the field. Smith feels like a project who may need to kick inside to guard.

Grade: C

35. Oakland Raiders: DE Mario Edwards Jr.

-The Raiders need pass rusher help so adding Edwards makes sense, but it is a bit surprising he was taken over some other top edge rushers. Still a solid value and fills a need.

Grade: B

36. Jacksonville Jaguars: RB T.J. Yeldon

-The Jacksonville Jaguars needed running back help so getting one early makes some sense, but this feels like a bit of a reach. It was such a deep running back group that it feels like the Jags could have waited a round or two to find their guy.

Grade: B

37. New York Jets: WR Devin Smith

-Devin Smith is probably the best deep threat receiver in this draft class, but this is a bit of an odd pick for the Jets with Eric Decker and Brandon Marshall already on the team. Long term he might have a lot of value, but he probably wont’ do much for the Jets until they find a top QB.

Grade: B+

38. Washington Redskins: OLB Preston Smith

-Great pick here by the Redskins they were desperate for edge help opposite Ryan Kerrigan. While they could have gone Harold or Gregory, Smith is a nice selection here. He’s bigger and can be an every down player for the Skins and should make some nice impact for their defense.

Grade: A+

39. Chicago Bears: DT Eddie Goldman

-Excellent pick by the Bears. They needed NT help and run stopping ability and Goldman brings both. He is a first round value so this is an excellent value.

Grade: A+

40. Tennessee Titans (via New York Giants): WR Dorial Green-Beckham

-This is a major risk pick as Beckham has a lot of red flags and is an extremely raw player. He’s got excellent size, but he needs to get his focus in order and really develop as a player. The Titans were wise to move back, but this feels like too much of a risk.
