Rapid Reaction: Picks 29-32: 2015 1st Round Grades
29. Indianapolis Colts: WR Phillip Dorsett:
-I’m a big Phillip Dorsett fan, as I see him as a deep threat who can be explosive. But he was not a top 50 guy for me, particularly in a deep WR class, where you could get similar talent a round or two later. The other issue with this pick is how will the Colts use him? This is a team with T.Y. Hilton, Andre Johnson, and Dante Moncrief at WR, not to mention Fleener and Allen at TE, how many targets will Dorsett get this year? The Colts needed defense and OL help but went with a solid but overvalued receiver. Even with Andrew Luck at QB that is a poor strategy.
Grade: C+
30. Green Bay Packers: S Damarious Randall:
-This one is a bit of a shock for me. Randall was getting hyped up as the best free safety in the draft, but he’s a guy that was really raw and seemed to lack great instincts. Maybe he ends up working out for the Packers, but his best position long term might be slot corner, which is just not worth a first round selection.
Grade: C
31. New Orleans Saints: ILB Stephone Anthony:
-The Saints bolstered their defense with Anthony in this spot and he should fit their 3-4 defense perfectly. Anthony has great vision and closing speed and should be a tackling machine for New Orleans.
Grade: B
32. New England Patriots: DT Malcom Brown
-The Patriots land one of the top defensive tackles in this draft by staying put at 32. Brown will help fill the gap left by Vince Wilfork and offer solid push and production from the interior of their defensive line. He’s still developing overall and his upside is immense. For the team who won the Super Bowl this is a home run pick for them.
