Rapid Reaction: Picks 1-4 2015 1st Round Grades
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: QB Jameis Winston
-No real surprise here as the Bucs land the guy they’ve been talking about for months. Winston has elite, franchise QB potential, but turnovers and off the field concerns are present. Winston’s long term potential is great, but the Bucs need to make sure they surround Winston with enough talent to succeed.
Grade: A-
2. Tennessee Titans: QB Marcus Mariota
-The Titans were apparently being offered the world for Mariota, but they went with the quarterback. Though there are concerns with how Mariota fits the team, he still has the potential to be a great QB at the next level.
Grade: A-
3. Jacksonville Jaguars: DE Dante Fowler Jr.
-Jaguars take a guy in Dante Fowler Jr. who is a perfect fit for what they want to do on defense and the most complete pass rusher in this draft. Fowler has immense upside and long term is a great piece to build around on this defense.
Grade: A+
4. Oakland Raiders: WR Amari Cooper
-The Raiders decided to add a weapon for Derek Carr with their first pick in WR Amari Cooper. Cooper is the best route runner and probably overall WR in this class, but this is a slight risk with Leonard Williams and Vic Beasley still on the board. Wide receivers typically have a tough time producing early in the NFL if the QB play isn’t already great, so the Raiders might not get the immediate value they are hoping for.
Grade: B+
