Luke Joeckel Scouting Report

NFL Draft Scouting Reports

Luke Joeckel, Offensive tackle Texas A&M

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 306

Arm Length: 34 1/4”

Hand:  10 1/8”

40 time: 5.30

  • Excellent feet, has some of the best feet among offensive linemen in the draft
  • Great lateral quickness capable of beating the defender to the edge
  • Very strong anchor in pass protection, very tough to push back
  • Great measureables, has the prototypical LT frame
  • Good anticipation, does not bite on false blitzes.
  • Has experience in both a more pro style system and a spread attack
  • Big strong hands, once they are on a defender it is tough to break his block
  • excelled versus some top notch defenses over the years, particularly versus the SEC

  • Not naturally quick, may not be as profienct in a zone scheme, or getting to the second level
  • Needs to get stronger if he wants his run blocking to match his pass blocking
  • Has had the benefit of very mobile athletic quarterbacks, will likely have to get used to blocking for a pocket passer

Joeckel has elite left tackle potential and should be a day one left tackle at the next level. His upside is on par with other elite tackles such as Joe Thomas, Jake Long and Ryan Kalil. His strength is his pass blocking, though he should be at least a good run blocker at the next level. He’s got great natural ability and should be a top 5 pick. He represents one of the safest values in the draft, and given the importance of his position should make some team very happy.
