February 17, 2012
2012 NFL Draft Scouting Report:
C Peter Konz – Wisconsin (Junior):
Measurables:
Height: 6’5″
Weight: 305
Pros:
- Really good size and frame
- Has a nice base, and keeps his feet under him
- Showcases good power, and displays plus physicality on every block
- Really good and quick hands
- Anchor is above average
- Smart center, very capable of picking up blitzes
- Has a quick shotgun snap
- Excels at pass blocking, but capable against the run as well
Cons:
- Has missed time due to injury the last couple of years. Nothing major, but it is worth noting
- A little tall for a center, some teams might see it as a disadvantage
- Needs to get quicker off the snap, will at times lose ground before gaining his footing
- Could be more consistent at finishing blocks
Analysis:
Konz is the top center in this draft and follows a long line of quality offensive linemen from Wisconsin. He’s a big, strong, physical center with decent athleticism. Konz should be able to quickly step into a starting role and is one of the top center prospects from the last 5 years. His health could be an issue as he has missed at least two games in each of his three seasons. The good news is he never missed more than three games, so the severity isn’t that bad. In addition to his high ceiling Konz, is about as close to a sure thing as you get in the draft. He might not be assured of being elite, but he should at least be a good starter at the next level.
Peter Konz 2012 Draft Projection: 1st round – Should be a top 25 pick and the first center off the board.
