Rd 5, Pick 31 (162)
Rd 6, Pick 31 (196)
Rd 7, Pick 29 (232)

TEAM NEEDS:

1. Guard: The Steelers did a good job adding Maurkice Pouncey to the middle of their line last year, but now they need to find a guard to complement him. The Steelers will likely look for a guard in the top 3 rounds, as someone who can come in instantly and start for them.

2. Tackle: Last season the Steelers were without their starting tackles for the majority of the season. Making matters worse, Willie Colon will be a free agent this season, so if they can’t retain him they will need to find a replacement. Getting through one season was doable, but there is no way the Steelers can hope to compete if they don’t add another offensive tackle.

3. Cornerback: Last year the Steelers corner backs got pretty torched last season. While the elite pass rush and the talent of Troy Polumalu helped masked the weakness, CB is a position that needs to be addressed. Things could get worse if free agent Ike Taylor leaves this offseason.

4. Inside Linebacker: The Steelers live and die by their linebackers, and while their OLB’s are pretty well set, the Steelers could use some depth at ILB. James Farrior is getting up there in age and adding a young guy with the potential to take over in a year or two, would be wise for Pittsburgh.

5. Fullback: The Steelers don’t really utilize their full back in the offense, but they do like having a strong lead blocker. If they end up finding a full back who can help in short yardage situations that could be a benefit as well.

6. Nose Tackle: Casey Hampton is still the star in the middle, but his backup Chris Hoke isn’t really the heir apparent. Pittsburgh could look to draft a quality young NT in the middle rounds, to begin to prepare for life after Hampton. Also given how physically demanding the position is, having a strong two man rotation at NT is the ideal situation.

7. Defensive End: The Steelers could use another 5-technique end in their rotation. As good as their top 3 guys are, they still probably rank as average at the end position among 3-4 teams.

SUMMARY:

The Steelers offensive line and secondary let them down last season. Not just in the Super Bowl, but during a number of big games down the stretch. Fixing those issues could send Pittsburgh back to the Super Bowl and a chance to win their 7th Title.
