Where does Washington OT Trey Adams land after subpar Combine?

Shoulda, coulda, woulda pretty much sums up Washington offensive tackle Trey Adams’ current situation.

The 6-foot-8, 318-pound Adams “shoulda” been a high first-round pick by now if he “coulda” stayed healthy in 2017 and 2018, but he might have still been a high prospect if he “woulda” finished a solid senior season with a good Combine performance.

Now it’s anyone’s guess where Adams will land in the 2020 NFL draft. Some media outlets are now predicting Adams won’t hear his name called in any round.

And while that may be a bit of an overreaction, it’s not hard to see why analysts would feel that way. Adams’ 40-yard dash time of 5.6 seconds was the worst of any participant at the Combine, as was his vertical leap (24.5 inches) and his broad jump (7-feet, 8-inches).

However, Adams’ strength and quickness getting into his pass sets give evaluators hope, says Andy Patton of Seahawks Wire, adding that Adams could still develop into a starter or a quality backup.

“ … Taking a chance on a homegrown kid as an undrafted free agent, at least to see if there’s hope for that athleticism to return with another injury-free season, seems like a worthwhile gamble for a team in need of reinforcements up front,” Patton wrote.
