Report: Scouts say Utah State QB Jordan Love is a Day 2 prospect who will likely go Day 1

Jordan Love has been in the news quite a bit since Utah State’s season ended.

First, there was speculation that the redshirt junior would leave school as a graduate transfer. Then, after declaring for the 2020 NFL draft, there was an off-the-field incident.

And Love was then very much under the microscope as he participated in the Senior Bowl.

So what do scouts say about the 6-foot-4, 225-pound signal-caller?

From the latest Walter Football NFL Hot Press Report:

“While four teams had Love graded as a mid-rounder, sources from three other teams said they could see Love going in the first or second round, even though they, too, did not have him graded that high,” Walter Football’s Charlie Campbell says in the report. “The teams that thought (Love) could go in the early rounds said the need for quarterbacks will help push Love up and could cause a team to reach on him higher than where he should go. Thus, Love could go as high as the first round and shouldn’t fall out of the second or early third round if he slips to Friday night of the 2020 NFL Draft.”

Most draft analysts have Love firmly planted in the first round, as he’s seen as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2020 class behind LSU’s Joe Burrow, Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa and Oregon’s Justin Herbert, who was named as the MVP of the Senior Bowl.

The issues teams have with Love, though, are centered around his accuracy and overall field vision. Love passed for 3,402 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2019, but he also had 17 interceptions while completing 61.9 percent of his passes.

“Nearly every team source felt Love is a developmental prospect who will need time on the bench to improve before being ready to play,” Campbell says in the report. “However, Love could get forced onto the field quickly because of where he gets drafted.”
