Who the Giants should take Rounds 1-3
The Giants are looking to have a solid draft where they can add some key contributors to get themselves back in the playoffs. I will go over who I think the Giants should select with their first 3 picks in this upcoming NFL draft.
Round 1) Bjoern Werner, Defensive End, Florida State
In a previous blog, I had the Giants possibly getting Werner. He was regarded as a top 10 pick most of the year but he was not very impressive at the NFL Combine. If he drops to them, the Giants should definitely look into picking him up because he can develop into a great defensive end and eventually replace Jason Pierre Paul and Justin Tuck who will be ahead of him. Also, do not forget that Osi Umenyiora is no longer with the team. That would be a very solid trio of defensive ends.
Round 2) Justin Pugh, Tackle, Syracuse
I have seen this guy go as early as late in the first round and as late as the third round recently. Pugh will most likely play Right Tackle at the next level and he can battle David Diehl for that job. If he does not get it, he can also play guard and be an injury replacement. Either way I think this is a very solid pick up for the future of the Giants. However, I keep going back and worth with this pick because with the Giants being desperate to get back in the playoffs, I think it is a little risky to draft a guy in the 2nd round this year who may not even play/
Round 3) Tharold Simon, Corner Back, LSU
I almost had the Giants getting a versatile linebacker here but after the year Corey Webster had, I think they could use some corner back depth. I have always been a big fan of all the guys in the LSU secondary the past few seasons. I like SImon’s size a lot and I think he would be a good pick up for this team. I know they recently drafted Prince Amukamara early, and resigned Aaron Ross, but this to me is a smart pick. If they go linebacker, I do not think he will see the field as much as the Giants would like to see their players that they pick early in this years draft play. So that is another reason I am going corner here.
As for the rest of the draft, I can for sure see them going linebacker round 4. I can also see them taking a wide receiver in the later rounds for depth as well as a middle linebacker and maybe a big defensive lineman and a tight end.
Is it the NFL Draft yet?
