Monday Night Football Division Battle Preview: Giants vs. Redskins
The New York Giants are coming off the biggest win of their season against the Green Bay Packers in a 38-10 Sunday Night Football Victory. The Giants were coming off a bye week after struggling many weeks in a row. Eli Manning seemed tired, and the defense was hurt. I previously wrote about the Giants struggles and what they needed to do moving forward. The Giants win was a step in the right direction with Eli (3 passing touch downs) and the offense getting back on track and the defense getting healthy, but the Giants should be worried about this game against the Redskins.
The Redskins are a very hot team right now coming off two big wins against division rivals Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys (in Dallas). Robert Griffin has been absolutely unstoppable in those games with 8 throwing touch downs and only one interception.
The Redskins cannot afford to lose another game if they want to make the playoffs and they will have a very loud crowd in Landover ready to support their team and cheer them to victory.
For the Giants to have a chance, they need to put pressure on RG3 and get him off his game. However, I think he is just too dynamic and will run away from everything. He just needs to make sure he dives and does not get hit when he is running. The receiving core of the Redskins has really started to come together recently (Santana Moss, Josh Morgan, and even Leonard Hankerson) and the return of Pierre Garcon will really help, as you could see last week. He is clearly RG3’s favorite target. Expect a huge ovation for Alfred Morris as well at some point in the game because he is only 18 yards away from 1,000 rushing yards on the season. What an incredible find he has been out of the 6th round.
The Giants need to come up with some creative way to contain RG3 and make him beat them with his arm. If it is a throwing war between RG3 and Manning then I think I am going with Manning and the Giants.
The Redskins always play well against the Giants and I think RG3 is on too much of a tear to be cooled down right now. I think the Redskins win in a close one 34-27. I am predicting two passing touch downs from both quarter backs. The Redskins will get two rushing touch downs and two field goals while the Giants will get one rushing touchdown and two field goals.
I hope I am right. The Redskins have been one of my favorite teams to watch this season. What a difference a QB can make for a team and its fan base.
As a Jets fan, I wish I knew…
