Best Ball Free Agency Spin: Best Landing Spots for QBs

Best Ball Fantasy Football Fantasy Football

In one week, we’ll know exactly where a lot of the big-name QBs will land. This QB carousel is wild this year and the implications will be which teams will likely address the QB position in the NFL Draft.

So I’m going to take a look at the top free agency QBs and Justin Fields (likely trade) to rank their landing spots as we continue to draft the Big Board drafts on Underdog Fantasy.

Kirk Cousins (Current ADP – 136.4):

Likely Landing Spots:  Falcons, Vikings, Raiders, Commanders

Best Landing Spots Ranked:

  1. Falcons
  2. Vikings
  3. Commanders
  4. Raiders

The rumors right now are strong that the Falcons will sign Kirk Cousins. But the NFL is crazy, so stay tuned! Falcons make the most sense for him given their weapons, weak division, home dome games, and similar system with Falcons’ new OC.

Of course, going back to Minnesota would reunite him with Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and TJ Hockenson, who he was having an amazing season with last year before he popped his Achilles.

The only other viable options I think could happen are the Raiders or reuniting with Washington. Adam Schefter mentioned Washington as a possible dark horse on the Pat McAfee show. That would make sense for Washington to get a QB that can win the next 3 years, draft a QB to groom, and trade back the #2 pick for a ransom to build through the NFL Draft quickly with high draft capital. As a Washington fan I would love to see this, and so would Terry McLaurin and Jahan Dotson.

Russell Wilson (Current ADP – 211.3):

Likely Landing Spots:  Steelers, Raiders, Vikings, Falcons

Best Landing Spots Ranked:

  1. Vikings
  2. Steelers
  3. Falcons
  4. Raiders

Wilson needs to rebuild his reputation and the best places to do so in my opinion are the Vikings with an offensive-minded HC and tons of weapons or the Steelers who may be more run-first offense under Arthur Smith, but still have weapons to let Russ Cook in the passing game.

Of course, the Falcons have a ton of weapons now too, and if they don’t get Cousins, this could make sense. The Raiders are potentially in a mix for all these veterans and with Davante Adams, that’s always enticing for a QB.

Baker Mayfield (Current ADP – 159):

Likely Landing Spots:  Buccaneers, Patriots, Falcons

Best Landing Spots Ranked:

  1. Buccaneers
  2. Falcons
  3. Patriots

I think Mayfield’s best fit is to go back to Tampa and reunite with Mike Evans. He’ll have a new OC, but he excelled there. Again, the Falcons would be the next best if they don’t get Cousins, with their weapons. And I don’t like the Patriots for Baker, but there are some rumors it’s a potential landing spot.

Justin Fields (Current ADP – 85.9):

Likely Landing Spots:  Falcons, Steelers, Vikings, Bears

Best Landing Spots Ranked:

  1. Falcons
  2. Vikings
  3. Steelers
  4. Bears – not good if he stays with Caleb Williams

Fields will likely be the last to land after the first three QBs find homes. So one of the odd teams out that may be interested in a veteran or placeholder will likely be his home. The Falcons and Vikings would be best for him given their weapons.

And if for some reason he stayed with the Bears (very unlikely with them likely drafting Caleb Williams), then we don’t want to touch Fields.

Summary:

In summary, in Big Board drafts on Underdog currently, I’m fading Justin Fields. If he winds up with the Falcons or Vikings somehow, I may have some interest. But given the draft capital a team will use to acquire him, there will be no guarantees he will play a full season if there is a strong rookie or backup option.

I think Russell Wilsn is a deal right now. Especially at or around his current ADP of 211. If he lands in Pittsburgh, Vegas, Minnesota or Atlanta, all would be great spots for this price.

I’m currently actively targeting both Baker Mayfield and Kirk Cousins. I think their ADPs are too low given the fantasy rankings last year or two years ago for Cousins in full season. I think both will ultimately get very fantasy-friendly spots to put up another season of great fantasy numbers, and we are getting a major discount. If Mayfield lands in New England, then I’d likely fade him or be low on him for the rest of the draft season.

But there is some real value now for Wilson, Mayfield, and Cousins and I still think they’ll be too cheap after they land next week. So I have a lot of interest in getting my shares to these three free agents quarterbacks.
