Disappointing Fantasy Football Players in Week 2

Every week your star players, or players you count on run the risk of having horribly disappointing games. The players listed below had disappointing weeks based on standard scoring leagues, and points accumulated. These players may have very well have cost you a win last week. Will be interesting to see how these players bounce back in Week 3.

QB:     

Geno Smith: 3 Points, 15/35 214 Yards, 0 Touchdowns, 3 Interceptions

Although Geno is probably isn’t a sure fire starter, in deeper leagues he could very well be. Geno had a typical Jets game, throwing late interceptions to give up a game and have some questioning where in the world is Mark Sanchez?

Colin Kaepernick: 5 Points, 127 Yards, 0 Touchdowns, 3 Interceptions

Kaep had a horrid game versus the Seattle Seahawks. Kaep looked confused, and it showed throwing 3 interceptions and throwing into heavily crowded areas. In his defense however, the niners struggled as a whole in every aspect of the game. Kaep and his 5 points were a huge disappointment coming off of his dominating 30 point performance opening week.

Eli Manning: 10 Points, 28/49 362 Yards, 1 Touchdown, 4 Interceptions

Eli has had a horrible start to his season taking care of the ball. Although he threw 3 interceptions opening week, he offset it by posting 28 fantasy points and 4 touchdowns. This week however was the opposite. Manning only had 1 touchdown and a whopping 10 point fantasy points. Eli has to take care of the ball and will be able to post big numbers week in and week out. 

Tom Brady: 11 Points, 19/39 185 Yards, 1 Touchdown, 0 interceptions

Brady is one of the most prolific passers in the NFL. Unfortunately it may take him some time to post the usual Brady numbers with whats going on in New England right now. A mix of dropped passes and miscommunication between rookie receivers has led to a frustrated, low producing Brady. The absence of consistent catchers was evident, however the young WRs show promise.

RB:

Ray Rice: 1 Point, 13 Carries, 36 Yards, 0 Touchdowns

Hey diddle diddle Ray Rice didn’t show up. In his defense he was injured half way through the game, but just 36 yards was disappointing. His health status is up in the air as well as his production if he is out for an extended time. Best case scenario is he plays next week, against a stout Houston defense.

David Wilson: 1 Point, 7 Carries, 17 Yards, 0 Touchdowns

Wilson was primed to be the big play back for the Giants, however he has been anything but big. Wilson has had a Giant problem with taking care of the ball, and his production has suffered from it. If Wilson can get back to form he has the potential to put up solid numbers with his blazing speed.

Stevan Ridley: 4 Points, 16 Carries, 40 Yards, 0 Touchdowns

Ridley was a stud last season who rushed for 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns. However, the early part of the season has been anything but promising for a repeat performance. Ridley was benched in week 1 after a costly fumble, but was back to 15 plus touches in week 2. The anemic Patriot offense is struggling, and the run game is affected by it. The offensive line isn’t getting the push it should, and Ridley is suffering. He should be back to form soon with the returns of Gronkowski and rookie Zach Sudfeld at tight end.

Trent Richardson: 7 Points, 18 Carries, 58 Yards, 5 Catches, 21 Yards, 0 Touchdowns

Trent Richardson had a load of carries and a great track record against the Ravens. However, he didn’t find the end zone after several trips into the red zone. The Browns choice of plays in the red zone were those of shot gun formations, and not the power running that we were so accustomed to seeing.

UPDATE:  And now Trent Richardson will be getting his carries with the Colts, which we think can only mean good things fantasy owners who have Richardson. Maybe not this week, but definitely great news for this season.

WR:     

Steve Smith: 5 Points, 5 Catches, 52 Yards, 0 Touchdowns, 11 Targets (7 Last Week)

Steve Smith is surely a model of consistency in Carolina. He has posted 1,174 yards and 4 touchdowns last year. The consistent 1000 yard receiver could benefit more if QB Cam Newton could just be more consistent. Only thing that was missing for owners of Smith was a touchdown that would have put him with 11 points two weeks in a row. Smith should have a big game yards wise or around 50 and a touchdown more times than not. As of right now however, the big play receiver is on the disappointment list this week.

Larry Fitzgerald: 3 Points, 2 Catches, 33 Yards, 0 Touchdowns 5 Targets (14 Last Week)

Fitz performance was a disappointment for one reason only. He aggravated his hamstring again, frustrating owners who were hoping for a stellar duplicate performance from week one. Fitz caught 8 balls for 80 yards and two touchdowns from new quarter back Carson Palmer, a sight for sore eyes in Arizona. Although we don’t expect fitz to get two tds and 60 plus yards every game, we expect him to at least make it through the game.

Reggie Wayne: 4 Points, 5 Catches, 46 Yards, 0 Touchdowns 8 Targets (8 Last Week)

Reggie spoiled owners last week, catching everything that was thrown his way. He recorded 96 yards and a touchdown. While we don’t expect Reggie to catch every pass thrown his way, he should have more than a mere 4 points. Standout second year QB Andrew Luck loves Reggie, so look for him to get serviceable numbers as the season carries on. 

Demaryius Thomas: 5 Points, 5 Catches, 52 Y ards, 0 Touchdowns, 6 Targets (11 Last Week)

Thomas has everything desired in a wide out to be great for a long time. He has size, speed, physicality, strength, and hands that make him elite in any matchup in any week. Thomas caught 5 of his 6 catches, but didn’t have the huge play to send him into the double digit point plateau. Thomas has the skill set to break out for huge gains resulting in touchdowns, but on nights like this he could be just another receiver in terms of points. The offense he is in shouldn’t land him on this list many more times throughout the season.

TE:

Jason Witten: 1 Point, 3 Catches, 12 Yards, 0 Touchdowns, 8 Targets (9 Last Week)

Jason Witten is surely old reliable. The security blanket who seems to come up with loads of catches and game saving plays. However, he only find the end zone 3 times last year. He registered 2 touchdowns in week one, but dropped off horridly in week two. He only caught 3 out of 8 passes and only accumulated 12 yards. This was disappointing for a player who usually eats up yards.

Tony Gonzalez: 3 Points, 4 Catches, 33 Yards, 0 Touchdowns, 8 Targets (6 Last Week)

Tony G hauled in 4 catches last Sunday but didn’t get his much needed touchdown to put him in the serviceable category. Gonzalez is a player who gets most of his targets in the red zone. More times than not Tony will register at least a touchdown or 6 yards. This was a down week for Gonzalez, but in a offense that has numerous weapons, it will be hard to gauge his week to week production.

Vernon Davis: 2 Points, 3 Catches, 20 Yards, 0 Touchdowns, 5 Targets (9 Last Week)

Davis had a very pedestrian game against the potent Seattle defense. They blanketed him all game prior to him getting injured midway thru the fourth quarter. Davis came off a 21 point fantasy week, catching 6 of 9 balls for 98 yards. Davis should be back to his normal serviceable production in the coming weeks. Davis is one of the most athletic tight ends in the league, and should continue to produce well in the coming weeks.

Jared Cook: 1 Point, 1 Catch, 10 Yards, 0 Touchdowns, 6 Targets (10 Last Week)

Cook looked to be an intricate part of the Rams passing game in week 1. Accumulating  10 targets, and 7 catches for 141 yards. Cook would have had 3 touchdowns had it not been for the Honey Badger stripping him inches from the goal line. He finished the game with 2 touchdowns, but that seemed like years ago for Cook owners. He hauled in 1 pass for a measly 10 yards, and dropped some passes in the red zone. While 6 targets isn’t a big load, he gets a lot of red zone looks that should keep his value high for owners of him.
