Fanspeak Fantasy Football: 16 Team PPR Mock Draft
By Staff Writer Ryan Gerrity – Twitter: @RyanGerrity:
This league is very complicated because it is a Point Per Reception league but it is also 6 points for a touchdown pass, and points are awarded for quarterback rating. Obviously quarterbacks are valued very highly in this type of league and which is why Aaron Rodgers was selected third overall in the draft. This league is also very deep with 16 teams, snake style draft so after the 5th round, you are really starting to reach down the depth charts. I was the 7th overall pick in this draft and I will discuss each pick in the draft below.
Pick |
Round 1 |
1 |
Peterson, Adrian RB MIN |
2 |
Foster, Arian RB HOU |
3 |
Rodgers, Aaron QB GB |
4 |
Johnson, Calvin WR DET |
5 |
Rice, Ray RB BAL |
6 |
Charles, Jamaal RB KC |
7 |
Martin, Doug RB TB |
8 |
Lynch, Marshawn RB SEA |
9 |
Brees, Drew QB NO |
10 |
Richardson, Trent RB CLE |
11 |
Spiller, C.J. RB BUF |
12 |
McCoy, LeSean RB PHI |
13 |
Morris, Alfred RB WAS |
14 |
Forte, Matt RB CHI |
15 |
Ridley, Stevan RB NE |
16 |
Manning, Peyton QB DEN |
|
Round 1 Doug Martin fell to me for the 7th overall pick. He is one of the only running backs in the league that is still going to get 80% of the touches for their team. During his last preseason game he took a knee to the head, but he is alright and it is not a concussion. He will not miss any miss games.
|
Pick |
Round 2 |
1 |
Green, A.J. WR CIN |
2 |
Jones, Julio WR ATL |
3 |
Jackson, Steven RB ATL |
4 |
Brady, Tom QB NE |
5 |
Bryant, Dez WR DAL |
6 |
Bush, Reggie RB DET |
7 |
Sproles, Darren RB NO |
8 |
Johnson, Chris RB TEN |
9 |
Newton, Cam QB CAR |
10 |
Marshall, Brandon WR CHI |
11 |
Thomas, Demaryius WR DEN |
12 |
Johnson, Andre WR HOU |
13 |
Ryan, Matt QB ATL |
14 |
Cruz, Victor WR NYG |
15 |
Kaepernick, Colin QB SF |
16 |
Jones-Drew, Maurice RB JAC |
|
Round 2 Brandon Marshall was targeted on over 55% on the passing plays for the Bears last year and I expect that to continue this year with new head coach Trestman. He will get over 150 targets again this year, and could be a red zone threat. |
Pick |
Round 3 |
1 |
Fitzgerald, Larry WR ARI |
2 |
White, Roddy WR ATL |
3 |
Welker, Wes WR DEN |
4 |
Jackson, Vincent WR TB |
5 |
Wayne, Reggie WR IND |
6 |
Cobb, Randall WR GB |
7 |
Graham, Jimmy TE NO |
8 |
Gore, Frank RB SF |
9 |
McFadden, Darren RB OAK |
10 |
Colston, Marques WR NO |
11 |
Wallace, Mike WR MIA |
12 |
Amendola, Danny WR NE |
13 |
Nelson, Jordy WR GB |
14 |
Smith, Steve WR CAR |
15 |
Wilson, Russell QB SEA |
16 |
Vereen, Shane RB NE |
|
Round 3 Jimmy Graham is the best tight end in the league period. With Head Coach Sean Payton coming back the Saints will be a continuous scoring machine and Graham is always a target in the red zone. I do not think this is too early to take a tight end especially in a PPR league. |
Pick |
Round 4 |
1 |
Bowe, Dwayne WR KC |
2 |
Nicks, Hakeem WR NYG |
3 |
Brown, Antonio WR PIT |
4 |
Smith, Torrey WR BAL |
5 |
Stafford, Matthew QB DET |
6 |
Luck, Andrew QB IND |
7 |
Romo, Tony QB DAL |
8 |
Harvin, Percy WR SEA |
9 |
Mendenhall, Rashard RB ARI |
10 |
Wilson, David RB NYG |
11 |
Griffin III, Robert QB WAS |
12 |
Manning, Eli QB NYG |
13 |
Murray, DeMarco RB DAL |
14 |
Bernard, Giovani RB CIN |
15 |
Decker, Eric WR DEN |
16 |
Dalton, Andy QB CIN |
|
Round 4 At this point in the draft I have a running back, wide receiver, and tight end and I wanted to insure the other running back position. I could have taken a Bernard or Murray, but Wilson is the #1 back in NY and he has the potential to make some big plays if he learns how to pass protect. |
Pick |
Round 5 |
1 |
Garcon, Pierre WR WAS |
2 |
Jackson, DeSean WR PHI |
3 |
Jones, James WR GB |
4 |
Miller, Lamar RB MIA |
5 |
Ball, Montee RB DEN |
6 |
Mathews, Ryan RB SD |
7 |
Austin, Tavon WR STL |
8 |
Britt, Kenny WR TEN |
9 |
Gonzalez, Tony TE ATL |
10 |
Johnson, Steve WR BUF |
11 |
Witten, Jason TE DAL |
12 |
Hilton, T.Y. WR IND |
13 |
Gronkowski, Rob TE NE |
14 |
Davis, Vernon TE SF |
15 |
Bradshaw, Ahmad RB IND |
16 |
Austin, Miles WR DAL |
|
Round 5 If you listen to Fanspeak Fantasy Football you know I am a Tavon Austin fan. I believe that the Rams will find ways to get him the ball and he will have over 60 receptions this year. Austin is also a threat running the ball, and in the return game. Could be in the top 15 of fantasy wide receivers at the end of this year. |
Pick |
Round 6 |
1 |
Williams, DeAngelo RB CAR |
2 |
Rudolph, Kyle TE MIN |
3 |
Moore, Denarius WR OAK |
4 |
Bell, Le’Veon RB PIT |
5 |
Ivory, Chris RB NYJ |
6 |
Boldin, Anquan WR SF |
7 |
Gates, Antonio TE SD |
8 |
Jennings, Greg WR MIN |
9 |
Gordon, Josh WR CLE |
10 |
Lacy, Eddie RB GB |
11 |
Finley, Jermichael TE GB |
12 |
49ers DST SF |
13 |
Tate, Golden WR SEA |
14 |
Jeffery, Alshon WR CHI |
15 |
Brown, Andre RB NYG |
16 |
Williams, Mike WR TB |
|
Round 6 The Green Bay Packers running back situation is very tricky but Lacy right now looks like the front-runner ahead of Starks and Franklin. If Lacy doesn’t become the starter for the Pack, he will at least be a third down and goal line back which makes his value go up as a Flex player. |
Pick |
Round 7 |
1 |
Olsen, Greg TE CAR |
2 |
Cook, Jared TE STL |
3 |
Seahawks DST SEA |
4 |
Bengals DST CIN |
5 |
Heyward-Bey, Darrius WR IND |
6 |
Shorts, Cecil WR JAC |
7 |
Texans DST HOU |
8 |
Bears DST CHI |
9 |
Moore, Lance WR NO |
10 |
Ravens DST BAL |
11 |
Broncos DST DEN |
12 |
Patriots DST NE |
13 |
Rams DST STL |
14 |
Steelers DST PIT |
15 |
Falcons DST ATL |
16 |
Myers, Brandon TE NYG |
|
Round 7 This is a bit early to take a defense but defenses started to come off the board and I did not want to get stuck with a defense that is out of the top 5 because defenses score a lot of points in this league. The Texans defense has the potential with Watt, Cushing, and their secondary to create a lot of turnovers this year. |
Pick |
Round 8 |
1 |
Browns DST CLE |
2 |
Jackson, Fred RB BUF |
3 |
Cutler, Jay QB CHI |
4 |
Randle, Rueben WR NYG |
5 |
Sanders, Emmanuel WR PIT |
6 |
Green-Ellis, BenJarvus RB CIN |
7 |
Floyd, Michael WR ARI |
8 |
Packers DST GB |
9 |
Hartline, Brian WR MIA |
10 |
Hopkins, DeAndre WR HOU |
11 |
Buccaneers DST TB |
12 |
Vick, Michael QB PHI |
13 |
Bennett, Martellus TE CHI |
14 |
Richardson, Daryl RB STL |
15 |
Giants DST NYG |
16 |
Cardinals DST ARI |
|
Round 8 DeAndre Hopkins is the #2 wide receiver for Houston, but he prepares like he is the #1. Hopkins has looked very good this preseason already and his value rises in PPR leagues because he will not get double coverage because Andre Johnson will attract the safety leaving Hopkins 1 on 1 with cornerbacks. |
Pick |
Round 9 |
1 |
Woodhead, Danny RB SD |
2 |
Hillman, Ronnie RB DEN |
3 |
Ballard, Vick RB IND |
4 |
Blackmon, Justin WR JAC |
5 |
Pettigrew, Brandon TE DET |
6 |
Brown, Bryce RB PHI |
7 |
Freeman, Josh QB TB |
8 |
Davis, Fred TE WAS |
9 |
Sanu, Mohamed WR CIN |
10 |
Roethlisberger, Ben QB PIT |
11 |
Rice, Sidney WR SEA |
12 |
Thomas, Pierre RB NO |
13 |
Smith, Geno QB NYJ |
14 |
Gostkowski, Stephen K NE |
15 |
Broyles, Ryan WR DET |
16 |
Powell, Bilal RB NYJ |
|
Round 9 Like I previously stated in the beginning of this draft quarterbacks are very valued in this league. I waited too long for a quarterback because I was going into this draft with the idea of “quantity over quality” by selecting position players that touch the ball a lot. Josh Freeman has potential to throw 25 touchdowns this year, but he also has the potential to throw 15 interceptions. This is my least favorite pick in the draft by far. |
Pick |
Round 10 |
1 |
Thompkins, Kenbrell WR NE |
2 |
Bryant, Matt K ATL |
3 |
Floyd, Malcom WR SD |
4 |
Dawson, Phil K SF |
5 |
Daniels, Owen TE HOU |
6 |
Walsh, Blair K MIN |
7 |
Stewart, Jonathan RB CAR |
8 |
Prater, Matt K DEN |
9 |
Tate, Ben RB HOU |
10 |
Pierce, Bernard RB BAL |
11 |
Givens, Chris WR STL |
12 |
Taylor, Stepfan RB ARI |
13 |
Ingram, Mark RB NO |
14 |
Franklin, Johnathan RB GB |
15 |
Bradford, Sam QB STL |
16 |
Wright, Kendall WR TEN |
|
Round 10 Bernard Pierce is a top 3 back up running back in this league and the way the Ravens have used this preseason show that he is going to be getting a lot of touches this year. If Ray Rice gets hurt, Pierce will be able to handle all of those carries, he also is going to be getting a lot of carries on the goal line because he is the bigger running back. |
Pick |
Round 11 |
1 |
Janikowski, Sebastian K OAK |
2 |
Hartley, Garrett K NO |
3 |
Flacco, Joe QB BAL |
4 |
Schaub, Matt QB HOU |
5 |
Vinatieri, Adam K IND |
6 |
Stacy, Zac RB STL |
7 |
Bullock, Randy K HOU |
8 |
Forbath, Kai K WAS |
9 |
Bailey, Stedman WR STL |
10 |
McCluster, Dexter WR KC |
11 |
Little, Greg WR CLE |
12 |
Rivers, Philip QB SD |
13 |
Rodgers, Jacquizz RB ATL |
14 |
Tannehill, Ryan QB MIA |
15 |
Pead, Isaiah RB STL |
16 |
Leshoure, Mikel RB DET |
|
Round 11 A kicker in round 11? Yes. |
Pick |
Round 12 |
1 |
Williams, Ryan RB ARI |
2 |
Reece, Marcel RB OAK |
3 |
Tolbert, Mike RB CAR |
4 |
Streater, Rod WR OAK |
5 |
Tucker, Justin K BAL |
6 |
Smith, Alex QB KC |
7 |
Greene, Shonn RB TEN |
8 |
Palmer, Carson QB ARI |
9 |
Locker, Jake QB TEN |
10 |
Weeden, Brandon QB CLE |
11 |
Davis, Knile RB KC |
12 |
LaFell, Brandon WR CAR |
13 |
Dobson, Aaron WR NE |
14 |
Robinson, Denard RB JAC |
15 |
Jones, Jacoby WR BAL |
16 |
Ponder, Christian QB MIN |
|
Round 12 I needed a back up quarterback and Weeden was the last started on the board besides Gabbert. If there is any position that I would trade for it would be for a quarterback which is why I selected a lot of position players in the first 6 rounds. |
Pick |
Round 13 |
1 |
Bell, Joique RB DET |
2 |
Kerley, Jeremy WR NYJ |
3 |
Dickson, Ed TE BAL |
4 |
Akers, David K DET |
5 |
Holmes, Santonio WR NYJ |
6 |
Zuerlein, Greg K STL |
7 |
Cooper, Riley WR PHI |
8 |
Hunter, Kendall RB SF |
9 |
James, LaMichael RB SF |
10 |
Bush, Michael RB CHI |
11 |
Woods, Robert WR BUF |
12 |
Patterson, Cordarrelle WR MIN |
13 |
Burleson, Nate WR DET |
14 |
Wheaton, Markus WR PIT |
15 |
Moss, Santana WR WAS |
16 |
Cowboys DST DAL |
|
Round 13 I felt that in round 13 getting Riley Cooper was a steal. Yes, he has had some off the field issues, but with Jeremy Maclin getting hurt, Cooper is going to take that role of the #2 wide receiver. Vick was also named the starter for the Eagles this week and he is very comfortable with throwing the ball in Cooper’s direction. Cooper could be a very good red zone threat this year with his size over cornerbacks. |
Pick |
Round 14 |
1 |
Skipped Pick |
2 |
Flynn, Matt QB OAK |
3 |
Moreno, Knowshon RB DEN |
4 |
Lewis, Marcedes TE JAC |
5 |
Jennings, Rashad RB OAK |
6 |
Turbin, Robert RB SEA |
7 |
Bailey, Dan K DAL |
8 |
Stephens-Howling, LaRod RB PIT |
9 |
Bess, Davone WR CLE |
10 |
Riddick, Theo RB DET |
11 |
Manuel, EJ QB BUF |
12 |
Helu, Roy RB WAS |
13 |
Eifert, Tyler TE CIN |
14 |
Gould, Robbie K CHI |
15 |
Keller, Dustin TE MIA |
16 |
Randle, Joseph RB DAL |
|
Round 14 Theo Riddick is not going to play a lot this year because he is a rookie and is the #3 running back for the Lions. Riddick is a deep sleeper for a PPR league especially a big league like this one. The Lions offense is up tempo and will continue to throw to their backs out of the backfield. |
