OVERALL LINEUP STRATEGY FOR WEEK 1 AND SUMMARY:

STEVE:

This is a very interesting week because in this 11-game slate, we have a couple of really key match-ups to focus on, Colts vs Jags, Cards vs Rams, Vikings vs Bears, Panthers vs Dolphins, and Bengals vs Seahawks. The other 6 games might have a play or two worth sprinkling or mentioning but really aren’t ideal fantasy situations. There is also a lot of value opening up due to injury which is going to cause some likely big shifts in ownership projections as we get to Sunday.

The most surprising thing so far is that currently everyone wants to own the Burrow/Chase/Mixon side of the Bengals-Seahawks game, but the ownership numbers on Metcalf, Lockett, and Walker are non-existent. This is pretty surprising considering that the Seahawks have remained pretty condensed, and are coming off a bye. The Bengals’ defense has given up some major rushing plays this season and has some holes in the secondary, so it’s easy to see them getting exploited a bit in this match-up. I think this game has real back-and-forth shootout potential and one that I do want to target.

Another surprising game in early ownership looks is the Vikings at Bears, Fields is coming off back-to-back great fantasy weeks, and Cousins had three great fantasy weeks to start the year. Both defenses have been flat-out bad this season giving up massive fantasy days to opposing QBs and WRs/TEs. Yes, Justin Jefferson is off this slate, but DJ Moore, Jordan Addison (assuming he’s healthy), KJ Osborn, TJ Hockenson, and Cole Kmet (assuming he’s healthy) can all be stand-out plays.

Currently, none seem to be likely to be over-owned, so even a mini-stack, without or without one of the QBs could be in play here. We do have to watch the injury reports on Addison and Kmet, but assuming they are cleared, the upside here is huge. Weather can be a factor here, but it’s not expected to be too bad.

One final game I want to highlight is the Panthers-Dolphins game. On the Miami side, Mostert, Hill, and Tua are all excellent plays even at some heavy ownership. I also expect to see Chuba Hubbard decently owned now that Miles Sanders has been officially ruled out. I will be interested to see if this actually lowers Adam Thielen‘s ownership a bit, as I doubt people want to overload on Panthers. Thielen probably has the highest ceiling of any Panthers bring-back so if we see an ownership dip on him, it could be pretty interesting.

Another way to approach it, particularly if you are trying to pay up for Hill, is using Laviska Shenault. This is probably more for smaller field tournaments as I don’t see a massive ceiling, but Shenault had 5 carries last game when Sanders was healthy, and is just $3K. He’s listed as a WR so you still need to fill 2 RB roles, but he could get 8-12 carries, maybe 3-6 targets in this role. It’s not pretty but I don’t see his ownership getting out of hand. For a $3K guy he could be worth a look.

MEG:

I’m very interested in much fewer team stacks and game stacks than I typically am. Normally, I’m trying to narrow it down more at this point in the week. But I’m gravitating heavily to the Colts/Jaguars game. I think Lawrence/Ridley/Kirk/Etienne all have big upside and I think the Colts can punch back with Minshew at QB to hopefully make this a high-scoring game. I’m very surprised at Ridley’s ownership being so low coming off a big game. But I realize that’s mainly due to Kirk’s price being so cheap.

I also love the Stafford/Kupp stack and building around that. Kupp showed last week he is fully back and he will elevate Stafford’s game and numbers further, and they’ve already been respectable with Puka Nucua.

I love some stud running backs like Raheem Mostert, Travis Etienne, and David Montgomery in positive game scripts. Then we have Kenneth Walker inexplicably low-owned and in a great spot. And now we have massive RB value with Chubba Hubbard and Donta Foreman. This seems like a 3 RB build week for sure with the value and the awesome spots for RBs.

I’ll focus on my team/game stacks around them, likely punt TE and defense and see what other stud receivers I can fit! Good luck this week!
