OVERALL LINEUP STRATEGY FOR WEEK 1 AND SUMMARY:

STEVE:

So with us having four teams on bye, plus the London game, this is our smallest slate of the year, with just 10 games on deck. With so few games, it’s tough to write off any singular match-up, as we need to look for value plays wherever we can find them.

The other more intriguing aspect of this slate will be the return of some star players such as Jonathan Taylor and Cooper Kupp. Taylor surprisingly not only is back, but he signed a contract extension. It would still be surprising if either player is truly their former self this week, but they can be interesting DFS tournament options.

Kupp especially presents an interesting case as not only is his return causing him to be lower owned, but Puka Nacua who is basically 2nd in the NFL in receiving this year, is also not expected to be highly owned. This is in a match-up vs an Eagles banged-up secondary that has given up quite a few points through the air. I get the case for either player in this high total game, and you can even pair them with another lower-owned guy like DeVonta Smith, whose ownership might be 1/3 of that of fellow teammate A.J. Brown.

These can be some great pay-up plays if you are going to mix-in some chalky plays from other games. It will naturally give you a unique build, and you are still targeting one of the highest total games that could end up a real shootout.

Overall though I do want plenty of exposure to the Chiefs-Vikings game, as that does have the highest total, and greatest shootout potential. The top-end players are expensive, but they are also incredible difference-makers. Some of the secondary options in the game are good plays as well like Addison and some of the Chiefs receivers (Rice, Moore, etc.).

The Detroit Lions will be popular, and it is tough to get away from guys like David Montgomery and Sam LaPorta, but I will probably fade the Kalif Raymond chalk. If ASB is out, I’m fine with just playing guys like Reynolds, Montgomery, and LaPorta. The game could also be a slower-paced game, meaning Raymond might not have a crazy statline.

Some value plays that I do really like regardless of ownership include Wan’Dale Robinson, Gus Edwards, Dameon Pierce, Breece Hall, Reynolds, Rice, and Tyler Boyd.

MEG:

I agree with Steve that I still want to get plenty of exposure to the Chiefs/Vikings game, even if it’s higher-owned. Whether it is my main stack or a mini stack of just two players, I’m sure I will have a lot of access to that game. I like Isiah Pacheco as a lower-owned piece and way off the chalkier Vikings’ passing game.

I also agree with Steve that I’ll play the Lions’ chalky plays like David Montgomery and Sam LaPorta (and some Josh Reynolds), but probably fade the cheapest of them, Kalif Raymond chalk.

Like any week, the trick is going to be deciding which chalk to fade and which studs are worth paying up for. I got all of that wrong last week. And I hope my stands are more on point this week.

I have a couple big stands I’m interested in. First, is to be overweight the Jets…yes, even Zach Wilson. Breece Hall and Garrett Wilson are going to come with ownership, but their QB won’t have much at all. I like full Jets’ stacks with all 3 players.

I also like getting exposure to low-owned Cooper Kupp. It doesn’t look like he’ll be on a snap count, so as long as their are no issues in-game, he should get close to full run per Sean McVay’s comments. Getting Kupp in an awesome match-up, under 9K, 5% owned or less is definitely something I’m interested in. It’s risky, but I love the upside and leverage of it.

Plays like Kupp and/or full Jets stacks, will allow me to play some chalky guys like Achane or Montgomery around it if I want. This week will be interesting as always! Good luck!
