OVERALL LINEUP STRATEGY FOR WEEK 4 AND SUMMARY:
STEVE:
So the two things that stand out to me on this slate are the impact of injuries (mainly QBs) and the lack of ownership of WR 2’s of the top-end receivers on the week. We are still waiting for the Jimmy Garoppolo and Deshaun Watson injury news, which does change the outlook somewhat on those teams and potentially those games. I’m a little worried about the Raiders’ pushback if Garoppolo is out, but I still think that game has one of the best environments for a condensed shootout on the slate.
We’ve already heard that Bryce Young and Anthony Richardson will be back this week, but so far it hasn’t really shifted the ownership of the key players in those offenses. The price is still generally good for guys like Theilen, Zack Moss, and Michael Pittman, so perhaps we won’t see the ownership drop, but the game environment does take a hit with the rookies back under center.
Perhaps the more intriguing option is the lack of ownership among some of the most talented number 2 receivers in the league, all in really good spots. Tee Higgins, Jaylen Waddle, and Gabe Davis could be playing for 3 of the highest passing rate teams of the week, and should all clearly be the number 2 options on their teams. All have shown slate-breaking ability in the past and have strong match-ups this week, yet probably none of them crack 5% ownership (maybe not even 2%).
The other notable thing is that the Vikings and Eagles receivers are very talented with top QBs leading them, strong team totals, yet they aren’t expected to have anyone close to 10% ownership. That’s crazy to me, as Justin Jefferson and A.J. Brown can easy be top 3 WRs this week. D’Vonta Smith and Jordan Addison are strong looks as well and both of them could have ownership under 2%. If you want to make you line-up unique, you can add a talent like Smith and completely be different from the field.
The one final thing I will say is I’m going to be very invested in the Broncos this week. I know it’s been a bad start for Denver, and I do think their defense has some serious issues, but their offense is good, and has the chance to be incredible this week against the Bears’ defense. Chicago is just broken right now, and they have injuries piling up in their secondary on top of everything else they have going on. I think Javonte Williams is a solid play, but mainly I want to attack this Bears defense with Russell Wilson and Courtland Sutton and/or Marvin Mims. Jerry Jeudy is priced a bit too much for me to like him, but I will probably play him a couple of times with Wilson to be more unique.
I just think coming off a game where they gave up 70 points, the Broncos will come out firing on offense. Payton has to start quieting the critics and the best way he can do that is by putting up a big score himself this week.
