Arthur Brown Has Surgery

Ravens 2nd round pick LB Arthur Brown is out 4-6 weeks after having surgery for a sports hernia.

When the Baltimore Ravens started their organized team activities (OTAs) this week, there was one key player who was there but didn’t participate.  That player is inside linebacker Arthur Brown.

Brown, a second round pick this year, participated in the Ravens’ rookie minicamp which was a couple of weeks ago (May 3-5).  After that minicamp, Brown had surgery for a sports hernia, which is keeping him out of OTAs.

The recovery from a sports hernia injury is supposed to take four-to-six weeks.  This means that Brown will be out for the Ravens OTAs but should be back and ready to go for training camp which will start in late-July.

When asked about Brown’s surgery, head coach John Harbaugh said, “He’s recovering from that [sports hernia].  It’s a four-to-six week deal, and he should be fine soon enough.”

In the draft, Brown was considered to be one of the top inside linebacker prospects and many people, including me, thought the Ravens could take him with their first round pick.  However, Brown fell into the late second round and the Ravens pounced.  They traded up with the Seattle Seahawks to draft Brown, giving up picks in the 2nd, 5th, and 6th rounds.

With the retirement of Rolando McClain, Brown is expected to start at inside linebacker this season so it is important for him to be healthy so he can learn the Ravens’ complex defense.
