Ed Reed’s Suspension Overturned

Only an hour ago, news came out that arbitrator Ted Cottrell has overturned the NFL’s suspension of Ravens star S Ed Reed.  Instead of missing one game, Reed will only be fined $50,000 which is much less than the $423,529  he would have lost for missing one game.

Cottrell wrote to Ed Reed saying “I do not believe your actions were so egregious to warrant a one-game suspension without pay.”  He also said that Reed’s actions do warrant discipline and finished with “I hope in the future that you will focus on ensuring that your play conforms to the rules.”  Cotrrell played football as a LB from 1969-1971 and coached from 1973-2009 where he was a defensive coordinator in the NFL for 4 different teams.

Reed will now be able to play this week in San Diego against the 4-6 Chargers.  Last year the Chargers torched the Ravens secondary for 270 yards on 23 attempts and finished with 415 yards of total offense.  Reed and the Ravens will be looking to avenge their 34-14 loss against the Chargers.
