Ravens Set Practice Squad
Unlike some teams the Baltimore Ravens took their time in signing players for their practice squad. With the signing of QB Dennis Dixon today the practice squad has been set. One thing to note is any of these players can be signed away from the Ravens if they are placed on that team’s active roster. Without further ado here is the Ravens current practice squad.
QB Dennis Dixon
RB Anthony Allen
G Antoine McClain
OL Jack Cornell
LB Josh Bynes
OLB Adrian Hamilton
S Anthony Levine
S Omar Brown
Earlier this year the Ravens held a tryout of 3 QBs and they were Dennis Dixon, Curtis Painter, and Kyle Boller. Painter ended up winning the job but was cut a few days ago. The Ravens have always respected Dixon as he started against them one time and almost beat them. Out of all the QBs on practice squads the Ravens have the most experienced and would feel the most confident if he had to play. Allen, who was the Ravens 7th round pick last year, is eligible for the practice squad because he was injured for most of last year. This spot probably would have gone to Damien Berry for a 2nd year in a row but he was placed in IR instead. It is always good to have a RB on the practice squad as RBs get injured easily. McClain was an undrafted free agent out of Clemson and impressed enough to stick around. Cornell was actually starting at one point in training camp. At the start of camp he was starting at RT due to injuries and Bryant McKinnie reporting late. With that being said, Cornell can play 4 spots in the offensive line and it will be interesting to see him in camp next year. Bynes missed most of camp and the preseason with a neck injury but was the talk of training camp last year. He made this squad based off what the Ravens saw last year. Hamilton is one guy I am really intrigued by. The Ravens claimed him off waivers from the Cowboys. In his senior year of college at Prairie View A&M he had 20.5 sacks. The Ravens continue to stockpile pass rushers as they have Michael McAdoo on IR and lots of other talent on the active roster. Levine was on the Packers practice squad last year and spent camp with them this year. The Packers were also trying to get him on their practice squad. Last is Omar Brown who, arguably, had the best preseason of all Ravens players. Brown had 3 fumble recoveries, 1 INT, 1 onside kick recovery, and many tackles. Brown just got caught up in a numbers game in the secondary, which now has one extra player with the signing of S James Ihedigbo today.
Overall the Ravens have assembled a quality practice squad with good potential.
