2012 NFL DRAFT Scouting Report – Kendall Wright
2012 NFL DRAFT SCOUTING REPORT
WR Kendall Wright, Baylor:
Measurables:
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 199
Pros:
- Plays extremely fast, very good deep threat
- Very fluid, sinks his hips and gets in and out of his breaks
- Crisp route runner
- Can play both outside and at the slot position
- Has good short area quickness that makes him a weapon with screens
Cons:
- Size is still on the small side.
- Struggles to beat the jam, and usually looks to just out run defensive backs
- A bit raw in running some of the intermediate routes
- Only had 1 great year, some questions remain if he is just a one hit wonder
- Will be asked to block more in the NFL something that is fairly foreign to
Analysis:
I like Wright a lot despite the fact that he lacks the size and frame of the majority of top receivers in the NFL. In the right offense his speed and quickness potential could make him a very valuable weapon. Some will be concerned with his ‘slow’ 40 time at the combine, but given that he was recovering from an ankle injury, it’s a non-factor. Besides game day speed is far more important than track speed. Wright should still be considered a 1st round pick, and could even go in the top 20 picks.
