2012 NFL Mock Draft: Round 2
2012 NFL Mock Draft: Round 1: 17-32: Round 2
33. Denver Broncos: DT Tydreke Powell, North Carolina:
The Broncos failed to address their DT need this year, and I have a feeling it will come back to haunt them. Don’t look for them to make the same mistake again.
34. Carolina Panthers: SS Mark Baron, Oklahoma:
The Panthers could use a more talented SS and Barron is the best on the board.
35. Tennessee Titans: WR Ryan Broyles, Oklahoma:
Tennessee needs to add weapons for Jake Locker, and with Kenny Britt‘s continuing legal troubles this need keeps getting greater and greater.
36. Washington Redskins: ILB Courtney Upshaw, Alabama:
The Redskins are pretty thin at ILB, where they will choose between a 2nd year player who didn’t do anything as a rookie, or a utility player who will be learning his 4th defensive position at one spot. At the other spot Washington has London Fletcher an impending FA, making this position a need.
37. Cincinnati Bengals: RB Knile Davis, Arkansas:
The Bengals could use a good young every down back, and will probably draft one in the 2nd-3rd round.
38. Arizona Cardinals: OT Levy Adcock, Oklahoma State:
Regardless of who is behind center the Cardinals need to find as much help as possible for him along the line.
39. Buffalo Bills: QB Nick Foles, Arizona:
Buffalo has ignored drafting a young QB for a couple years now, so adding a guy like Foles in the 2nd round makes a ton of sense.
40. Jacksonville Jaguars: DE Vinny Curry, Michigan State:
Jacksonville desperately needs pass rushing help, and their pursuit of a QB left them without the picks to address that need.
41. Seattle Seahawks: CB Cliff Harris, Oregon:
Seattle could use a young CB, and the fact that he is a local product doesn’t hurt one bit.
42. Minnesota Vikings: DT Alameda Ta’amu, Washington:
With half the Williams wall gone, Minnesota needs another run plugger to fill the gap, Ta’amu is probably the best run stopper in this draft, making him a great fit.
43. San Francisco 49ers: ILB Tank Carder, TCU:
While Patrick Willis is a stud, T. Spikes can’t start next to him forever. Carder is a tackling machine and would be a nice fit in S.F.
44. Cleveland Browns: LB Don’ta Hightower, Alabama:
Cleveland is still transitioning to a 4-3 defense and needs to add some talent at LB.
45. Miami Dolphins: QB Ryan Lindley, San Diego State:
If Henne doesn’t turn the corner this year than the Dolphins need to walk out of the first two rounds with a QB.
46. Kansas City Chiefs: DE/DT Kheeston Randall, Texas:
I know the Chiefs have invested some high picks in this area, but so far it hasn’t panned out. Randall could either be a good 3rd DE to rotate at both spots, or take over a starting role.
47. Detroit Lions: CB Janoris Jenkins, North Alabama:
Detroit needs corners desperately and Jenkins would be a good value here if he shows he has gotten his life together.
48. Dallas Cowboys: CB Morris Claiborne, LSU:
The Cowboys are another team that needs to get younger at CB, and should look to add one here.
49. Chicago Bears: RB LeMichael James, Oregon:
The Chester Taylor signing isn’t really working out and while Forte has been solid, he’s not a real every down back, meaning he needs some help. Mike Martz’s system works best with a Marshall Faulk type of running back and that is exactly what James is.
50. New England Patriots (from Raiders): WR Juron Criner, Arizona:
The Patriots could use a receiver with some size and Criner is a good value here.
51. New York Jets: OT Andrew Datko, Florida State:
The loss of Damien Woody will probably be a big reason why the Jets fall short of the playoffs next year, and his replacement will need to be found early on.
52. Atlanta Falcons: TE Michael Egnew, Missouri:
Tony Gonzalez looks like he’ll retire next season, leaving a huge hole in the Falcons passing attack, Egnew is a top TE and should step in from day one.
53. St. Louis Rams: G David DeCastro, Stanford:
St. Louis needs to ensure Stafford stays upright and an upgrade at guard would go a long way to help that.
54. Houston Texans: FS T.J. McDonald, USC:
Houston added a number of quality defenders this past year, but they could still use a free safety.
55. Philadelphia Eagles: LB Keenan Robinson, Texas:
Eagles added some mid-late round LB’s this year, but if some of them don’t pan out, they could look for a higher upside solution next season.
56. San Diego Chargers: WR Mohamed Sanu, Rutgers:
The Chargers receiving corps is undergoing a number of changes, and could possibly need an upgrade next offseason.
57. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: G Kevin Zeitler, Wisconsin:
Tampa needs to strengthen their offensive line if they want to continue to be a playoff team, and Zeitler is a good fit here.
58. New York Giants: OLB Zach Brown, North Carolina:
The Giants don’t have much in terms of LB talent and a high upside player like Brown would be a steal for them.
59. Indianapolis Colts: OLB Travis Lewis, Oklahoma:
Indy could look to add another weapon for Manning, but doubling up on defense might be just what they need for another Title run.
60. Baltimore Ravens: ILB Chris Galippo, USC:
How much longer can Ray Lewis keep it up? The Ravens need to be prepared for when he calls it quits.
61. New Orleans Saints: G Cordy Glenn, Georgia:
Carl Nicks will be an UFA next season, meaning a replacement will be a top priority.
62. Pittsburgh Steelers: CB Donnie Fletcher, Boston College:
Pittsburgh’s CB situation could still be an issue next year and if so they won’t hesitate to use this pick to grab a guy.
63. New England Patriots: OLB Bruce Irvin, WVU:
NE needs to grab a pass rusher at some point right?? Irvin has a lot of upside and makes sense here for them (meaning it won’t likely be the pick)
64. Green Bay Packers: WR Dwight Jones, North Carolina:
Donald Driver might have one more year left in his tank, but by next season I think the Packers will need to find a receiver for opposite Greg Jennings. Jones has a ton of upside and is a great pick here.
